From Jan 2020 - Oct 2023 I was employed full time as a Games Designer for Halfbrick Studios. Here I have been involved in a variety of projects expanding my knowledge and experience in all areas of games development.
ColourTap
The Halfbrick 'Grad Bootcamp' got a small team working together on a content update for the mobile rhythm game 'Colour Tap'. Here I worked as a designer analysing player data, conducting playtests, working on game balancing, proposing solutions and working together as a team to release a small update and take learnings from analysing the success of said update.
Wobble Drop
Working on Apple and Android we released mobile application Wobble Drop. In a small team this allowed me the opportunity to investigate the 'Hyper Casual' and 'Hybrid Casual' mobile genre. On this team we worked on start to finish publishing a small arcade style game where I was working on elements such as gameplay design, monetisation, gameplay balancing and ensuring we had a good release cadence.
Fruit Ninja
As part of the 10 year anniversary of Fruit Ninja Mobile, I was tasked with helping the team rebalance and recreate the game in the Unity Games Engine. This allowed us more freedom and a cleaner user experience for the players. On this superstar team I was tasked with game balancing, monetisation strategies and some more development/programming work as well as establishing a design for a Live-Ops schedule and cadence though the use of creating hypothesis and testing experiments. Additionally, I further upskilled in using spread sheeting tools to aid and simulate player behaviour through D1-D100 player expectations.
Fruit Ninja 2
For a short stint while a lead designer was away on leave, I jumped in Fruit Ninja 2 to help ship some updates in preparation for its global launch. Here I was mostly working on monetisation, economy design and game balancing.
Fruit Ninja Classic+
Apple Arcade's Fruit Ninja Classic+ takes players back to the classic days of Fruit Ninja. On this team I was looking at long term retention design and economy balancing. Here I also learned a lot about UI design and handling user data very carefully. I also gained experience in dealing and negotiating with Apple.
Fruit Ninja VR2
Working on Fruit Ninja VR 2 has allowed me the opportunity to work in a larger team co-ordinating design from the pre-release to the beta stage of development, and even Global release and post release support! Here I have worked on a fathom of game development related areas such as:
Performance Optimisation, QA, working with the Oculus Quest Pipeline, multiplayer and networking design, data analysis and SQL/looker dashboard management, creating hypothesis, community management and player engagement, playtesting, level design, onboarding design, content design and localisation
Panellist and Guest Speaker at Queensland University of Technology
I have attended multiple events as a representative of Halfbrick in the gaming industry, speaking on panels for QUTS XR club as well as presenting multiple guest lectures for QUTs VR Development course where I have had the pleasure of sharing my experience and knowledge with eager students.
