The SPIE Purdue University Student Chapter was founded in November 2014. The chapter aims at serving the optics and photonics research community at Purdue University and providing network opportunities for students in the optics and photonics related research area. Each year the chapter receives a Traveling Lecturer Grant to invite a visiting speaker from other institutions for a seminar, an Officer Travel Grant to send two chapter officers to one of the SPIE conferences, and chapter activity fund to support other activities.

In May 2015, I was elected the president of the chapter, and have served the chapter till August 2017. The activities we organized since the establishing of the chapter include:

• Co-organizing Annual conferences on Micro- and Nano- Scale Sciences with OSA Purdue University Student Chapter and Nanotechnology Student Advisory Council (NSAC)
• Inviting speakers for seminars and hosting student luncheons with speakers
• Inviting companies from industry to demonstrate latest products
• Organizing social events for chapter members
• Organizing annual Nano Days event at Birck Nanotechnology Center
