He was laid to rest in the Cairn of Nameless Heroes and by his side were lain his Golden Gae Bolga and his Horn Longbow. Seven years after the entombing of the Nameless Hero, three druids came to claim the remains of Cormac McDougal. And thus the Nameless Hero was finally known.
Cormac McDougal, Greatest Hero of His Time, Slayer of the Beast of Bolmore Bog, Once Champion of the Tuatha dé, Murderer of Ard Ri Banlon McKenneth in vengeance of the Taking, and Slaying of Cormac's Wife Highlady Maneah, Banished for that Deed from Clan and Country, Clanless Nameless Wanderer for Seven Years, Slayer of the Wyrm Kazgaroth at The Highroad Where He Fell.
And when the druids took his bones from the cairn all gathered there could see the bones edged with the runes of Power marking Cormac McDougal as one of the Legendary Sons of Lugh.
The Sons of Lugh, Handpicked by the Gods Themselves. The Secret Woads laid on their skin at Sunrise, The Skin then Balmed with the Blood of their Enemies Slain, And By the Burning of the Woads from the Skin to the Bone Marked as Sons of Lugh, Destined to Oppose Gods, Protectors of the Realm, And Blessed Keepers of the Faith.
Maga, Reaper of the Acorn Crop, was created with a singularity of purpose as sharp as the blade of her ax: To protect the Gifts of the Gods. But it is strangely troubling to see a Hero of the Realm slain by Her Hand for the taking of one of these Gifts when there was no evil intent behind it.
Slain by Maga's Hand was Donnal ap Conlae of Clan Arkeesh, Son of Lugh, Vanquisher of Slough Feg, the Lord of Stench, at the Battle at the Fields of Hazel.
Donnal ap Conlae, thrice killed by the Relentless Force that is Womankind in the shape of Goddess, Queen and finally Handmaiden.
Firm stood his wife Dana, friends and companions in their grief when they declined the vile offer made by Three Eyed Indek to return Donnal to the Lands of the Living. For he fought and fell with Honour, shining in the Brilliance of the love for his wife and friendship for his comrades.
Even the Gods took note of the Sad Beauty that was his Passing. And Herne, the Horned God, whose ascension Donnal was witness to, came to collect Him and He now roams the Woods by Hernes side and Their Laughter is the Sound of Water passing over Stones in the Brooks and the Rustling of Sun Painted Leaves in the Trees.
He will be missed by Wife, Clan and Friends alike. Already the tales of his deeds are told at the Campfires and Meadhalls by the Bards of the Realm. And His Name shall strike fear into the hearts of enemies in the battles to come.
...and suddenly the strange but eloquent Bard that joined your campfire this starlit night disappears and all that remains of his passing is the moist earth were fell his tears and these words you remember..
Have you heard? The Seven Year Reign of Great King Gahn of the Red Branch Clan came to an end! King Gahn had proclaimed that he would return to the Earth after the Battle for Haven and so he did.
