Hi! my name is Jada Weathers, artist name J.Da Storm.
I am a Neighborhood Arts: Creative Allies Artist In Residence. I will be working with the City of Greensboro's Housing and Neighborhood Development department with their program Community Land Trusts.
I am a daughter of the Dudley Heights community, alum of both the Academy at Lincoln and the great James Benson Dudley High School and excited to be serving the community until May 2025.
For the first two months of my residency, I sat and listened to what community members had to say to me and developed my project Dudley Renaissance to help surge the arts within the community and spark other artists and creatives to be open and free to create!
So join me on this journey as of storytelling and song-writing as we share our stories and lift our voices to help my City department partner align it's work better with the community. All events are FREE and open to the public!
Free workshops on lyrical composition of songwriting. Each session will focus on an element of songwriting that participants will learn and practice demonstrating during that workshop. Each workshop will be designed to build upon the knowledge of each other but attendance will be free flow. This will allow participants to have the opportunity to opt-in with participating and allowing them to have a choice on participation. Previous lyric labs will be available online through the Dudley Renaissance website. Middle school to adult age participants preferred. Each workshop will last two hours from 10 am to 12 pm on select Saturdays. Refer to Calendar each month for updated events.
Free creative writing workshops available to all ages and will provide creative writing prompts for participants to engage with during the time. Held once a month, there will be a new topic/prompt in which participants will be encouraged to respond to in their writing. This writing can be a journal entry, a song, a poem, a rap, etc just as long as it is completed by the sole individual. If participants are working on extended pieces or need assistance with a creative project of their own, they are encouraged to seek support from others during the work hours. Additionally, participants will be encouraged to work on assignments from the monthly songwriting Saturday session. Attendance will be free flow. This will allow participants to have the opportunity to opt-in with participating and allowing them to have a choice on participation. Previous writing prompts will be available online through Dudley Renaissance website. All ages are welcome to attend. Each office hours session will be 2 hours from 4pm to 6pm or 5pm to 7 pm.
This series was created to allow emerging artists and community members to have the opportunity to discuss their artwork and perform their music live in front of an audience. This space is intended to support artists who may just have started on their paths as creative and need opportunities of professional development, marketing and performance development. Each show will focus on a featured artist(s) who will do a deep dive on a project or initiative that they are developing with the opportunity to perform or provide an activity for participants to engage with. By the end of each session, participants should be able to walk away with learned knowledge from another artist or creative that they can support. 18+ encouraged for these events due to adult appropriate topics. Each event will last 2 hours. Refer to Calendar each month for updated events.
