Listed here some examples of current STEM and Computer Science Support that I provide Jackson and Hillsdale County educators.
A major focus in 2021 was to create a professional learning network within Jackson County consisting of STEM and computer science educators. My team and I wanted to focus on allowing educators time to explore, collaborate, and share their experiences with each other. Initially, I facilitated sessions related to STEM and tech resources. Subsequent breakout sessions were facilitated by county STEM and computer science educators. Each attended session also provided educators with SCECHs.
To support Jackson and Hillsdale County educators in adding elements of the Maker Movement or STEM education in their classroom, they have the opportunity to check out a variety of STEM materials. In addition to the checking-out materials, they also received integration support from me.
Innovation camp is a two-and-a-half-day professional learning event in which educators bring a team of three students. I have planned, organized, and facilitated this event for three years. The goal is to have educators learn how to teach STEM and computer science-related concepts through a camp-style professional development experience. I model and teach the students the concepts and skills so educators can see how it is done in a live environment. This year’s theme is scholastic esports with a focus on project-based learning centered around entrepreneurship, media creation, and technology skills. Student teams will compete in the TeamJXN Innovation Cup, a tournament featuring school-friendly esports games on day 3 of this event. Teachers receive SCECHS for their participation among other incentives.

I am excited to inform you about Promoting STEM through Literature. It is an amazing project promoted and funded through the REMC Association. Through this program you can use literature to get your students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Your students will also be actively involved in the design thinking process. Our team has all the books and the materials ready for you to check out! You can find lesson plans on the Promoting STEM through Literature webpage.
