I grew up in the era of video games. In fact, I don't remember a time in my life where games didn't exist in some form. I well remember the table Pac-Man game at Godfather's Pizza when I was maybe 3 years old. Yes, I am that old. 😂
As time went on, I found favorite games on my Commodore 64, Atari, and our Tandy home PC. From there, of course Nintendo and PC gaming took over my days. The earliest games I can remember on Nintendo were Mario and Contra, both of which I played until my hands just gave out. Unfortunately, I skipped Super NES until well after N64 was released, but I made up for it buying one on eBay, and of course, with those emulators too.
My PC gaming love centered a lot around simulation and role playing games, such as Lord of the Realms 2 and Myth The Fallen Lords. When it came to consoles though, I went from Mario Kart 64 and WCW Revenge, almost directly into Xbox gaming.Â
I've got a small list below that will keep growing of course, with links to where you can obtain these. Some of these old PC games are available on Steam and elsewhere now, so give them a chance.Â
State of Decay was released right at the peak of the Walking Dead craze. I played this every waking minute that I was free for years. It had a deep story, amazing gameplay, and allowed users to build a community of survivors just like in the Walking Dead. It is the best zombie apocalypse RP game I've ever found.
I began playing Minecraft on my phone when my grandmother was recovering from surgery about 15 years ago. I spent several hours in the rehab with her, and downloaded it on my phone while she was napping. Today, I get to play it with my daughter and we will have building competitions, and then we survive the nights. It's always fun.
I never have played the first in the series, but the second game has taken up months of my life playing. It is definitely a 90's game, but the turn based strategy games just don't get any better. You're fighting the other lords for the crown, and must keep your people fed and happy during the wars. Perfect way to lose days of your life. I only paid $5 for it, and still have the discs, but the Steam download has many more maps to play.
This was such a hit to play online. I had friends in college that played it in their dorms, and I'd join their online game to capture the flag on the demo. Once I got bored with that, I went to Software Etc and bought my own copy. Your mission is to lead a team of heroes to defeat the Fallen Lords, basically evil spirits.Â
CHEAT: Hold the SHIFT key when clicking NEW GAME and you can pick any level to play!
My first exposure to vampire games. I never really got into the sequels much, but this was a deep story of a man who awoke as a vampire, determined to hunt down those who cursed him with this life. A 2D/3D game where I can drink the blood and absorb the souls of men who committed this sin against me? Yes!
All those years that I avoided the GTA games, and then one day in 2015 Steam ran a sale on GTA3, Vice City, and Liberty City, so I bought them. Fast forward 2 months later, I was still playing GTA3 every free minute. I built my way up to crime boss and basically was able to have my way with the city. It was so much fun. Use GUNSGUNSGUNS for all weapons to be a badass.Â
