Dr. Agha Zeeshan Mirza was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He started college at DJ Sind Government Science College in 1999 at Karachi. He graduated in 2000 and began studies at the University of Karachi later that year, graduating with an M.Sc in Chemistry in 2003. He worked as a chemist at Abbott Laboratories Pakistan, and later with ENAR Petrotech, Karachi. In 2005 he began studies in graduate school at the University of Karachi and graduated in 2011 with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. During the Ph.D., he worked with Prof. Dr. Joseph Irudayaraj at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana USA as Visiting Research Scholar. Later, he joined Intertek Testing Services at Karachi as Research and Development Manager. In 2012, He took a postdoctoral position at Umm Al Qura University in Makkah, KSA, working on the Development through Computer-Aided Molecular Drug Design of Isoxazolidine Nucleosides and Nucleosidyl Podophyllotoxin Derivatives with Potential Anticancer Activities with Dr. Majdi Bkhaitan. After two years, he began his independent career as an Assistant Professor in the chemistry department at Umm Al Qura University, Makkah, KSA.
Dr. Zeeshan’s research involved the synthesis of biologically interesting molecules. His most recent work involved the Drug Design of bifunctional Hybrid agents with combined anti-hyperglycemic anticancer activities. Another project involved the synthesis of novel thiazolidinedione derivatives for anti-diabetic, antioxidant and antiglycation activities.
He has published 55 peer-reviewed research papers in national and international journals.
