About

Dr Sankaran Iyer is an AI, Computer Vision and Embodied AI specialist with over 30 years of combined industry and academic experience in developing practical intelligent systems that integrate computer vision, embedded systems, IoT and autonomous robotics.

He obtained his PhD from the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) in 2023. His research and engineering experience spans intelligent perception systems, surveillance analytics, behaviour understanding, medical image analysis, reinforcement learning, object detection and tracking, and AI solutions for safety-critical and real-world applications.

Prior to academia, he spent more than three decades with Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent, leading the development of large-scale embedded software, intelligent telecommunications systems and complex engineering projects.

His current work focuses on embodied AI and autonomous robotics, exploring how perception, reasoning and action can be integrated to create intelligent systems capable of operating in the physical world. Recent projects investigate the combination of computer vision, embedded intelligence, IoT and robotics to develop affordable autonomous platforms for research, education and future commercial applications.

Beyond research, he enjoys transforming ideas into working systems by combining hardware, software and AI into practical engineering solutions. He welcomes opportunities for research collaboration, consulting, technical workshops and innovative projects in AI, computer vision, embodied AI and autonomous robotics.
