Research on Membrane based separation process (Solvents recovery from diluted aqueous streams)

Working with vapour permeation and pervaporation for various solvent separations working closely with industrial collaborators.

 Design and fabricate graphene oxide-coated silicon carbide membranes for the recovery of ethanol from diluted water stream using membrane distillation.

 Planning and executing the Scale-up experiments

 Design and fabricate the leak-proof membrane modules and systems for vapour permeation, for both flat and tubular membranes.

 Market analysis and business development plans for the developed membranes and technologies.

 Assisted in tech spec documentation, pitch-deck presentation, portfolios and NDA preparation.

Hydrogen separation using graphene oxide membranes (Project sponsored by Centre for Hydrogen Innovation, NUS-Singapore)

 Design and fabricated a fully automated home-built stainless steel gas separation unit for testing graphene oxide membranes (with the support of Swagelok)

 Preparation of thin flat sheet composite graphene oxide membranes and coated ceramic tubular membranes

 Characterization of membranes using SEM, AFM, XRD, and XPS.

 Performing single and mixed gas permeation tests (H2, N2, CH4, CO2)

 Testing the purity of gases using GC (TCD)

 Analysis of purified products using HPLC, GC-MS.

 Preparation of polymer membranes (PTMSP, PDMS, PEBA, PIM)

 Synthesis of novel hybrid membranes using nanoparticles and ionic liquids.

 Physical properties of hybrid membranes (FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM, Contact angle measurement, wettability, Mechanical testing etc.)

 Measurement of volumetric mass transfer coefficient (k L a), Gas hold-up, and power input in both laboratory-scale and pilot-scale vessels.

 Measurement of Oxygen transfer rate (OTR) at different RPM and gas flow rates in both coalescent and non-coalescent batches in mechanically agitated fermenters.
