The Central Workshop at the permanent campus of NIT Meghalaya, located in Saitsohpen, Sohra, was established in 2022 as a modern facility to promote hands-on technical training and innovation. It supports both academic learning and research across various engineering fields. Equipped with advanced machinery, tools, and instruments, the workshop allows students to apply theoretical concepts through practical work. It plays a key role in developing skills through project-based learning, prototype development, and innovation-driven activities. The workshop includes eight specialized sections: (a) Machine Shop, (b) Welding Shop, (c) Foundry Shop, (d) Fitting Shop, (e) Carpentry Shop, (f) Automobile Shop, (g) Plumbing Shop, and (h) Electrical Shop. Each section is well-equipped with modern and industry-relevant machinery and tools to offer in-depth technical training. Overall, the Central Workshop strengthens students’ practical knowledge and prepares them to face real-world engineering challenges.
