about me

My research focuses on the biodiversity of marine coastal habitats, and their resilience and sensitivity to anthropogenic impact. I am especially interested on the biology and importance of keystone species and ecosystem engineers, creators of biogenic habitats such as oysters, mussels and kelp, their conservation and potential for ecological restoration. Most of the projects I am involved in relate to sustainable management of wild marine resources and nature based solutions to restoration, based on the use of aquaculture of keystone species, that support local economies.

I have over 20 years experience bridging consultancy work and academic research in Ireland and the UK. Currently based at the Atlantic Technological University Galway City and the Marine and Freshwater Research Center, in Galway (Ireland). I am a Lecturer in the Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology and Agricultural and Environmental Management BSc (Hons) degrees, and the International Masters in Marine Biology and Resource Science (IMBRSea).

I'll be happy to hear your research ideas for marine restoration and conservation ecology projects especially if they focus on bivalves, kelp and other keystones and nature based solutions for restoration.
