The Kulliyyah empowers all of its instructors to monitor the learning of their own students, and this includes their attendance.
According to the Student Academic Performance Evaluation (Undergraduate) Regulations 2021, students who did not fulfil the attendance requirement (if any) set by their respective lecturers shall be barred from taking the end-of-semester examinations or final assessment and be given ‘Y’ grade which is equivalent to an ‘F’ grade, irrespective of coursework performance.
For all of my undergraduate and Ph.D. classes, no marks are given for attendance because I believe it is your responsibility as students to attend them. This has always been my practice even before the pandemic COVID-19. I do, however, take note of your attendance as a sign of your seriousness and effort. (In some cases, your attendance may be the deciding factor for me to consider if you happen to be on the borderline of passing or failing i.e. 49 at the end of the semester).
Attendance is recorded in Google Classroom on the specified class dates. I am flexible in that I give you the entire day to record your attendance in our virtual classes. The intention is for you to remember that we do have classes ongoing, at least in spirit, so that you will watch the video lectures as soon as possible. I understand that we are more preoccupied during online learning and it is very easy to forget about our lessons. Therefore, I am helping you not to procrastinate by watching my video lectures as scheduled on the relevant class dates. You may also repeat watching the videos at your own pace and convenience.
As there are no final examinations for any of my courses, please take advantage of this flexibility and opportunity to learn the most throughout your online T&L. Thank you for your cooperation.
For GSMB 7304, attendance is part of the class participation, which is worth 20% of your entire grade.
No attendance is recorded but if you are absent, you will not be participating in any of the class discussions or activities specified on those dates, and will therefore, lose marks.
