The driving test is made to be straightforward and is designed to:
To see if you can drive on different roads and traffic conditions.
To see whether you know the Highway Code and can apply it while driving.
What happens when you meet your examiner?
You will need to do an eyesight check. However, if you fail this then the test will not continue.
Your examiner will ask you 2 questions on carrying out vehicle safety. This will be a 'show me' and 'tell me' question.
You will be asked to do 10 minutes of independent driving.
The actual practical part is around 40 minutes. You will be examined on your general knowledge on driving and reversing your vehicle. You will also be tested on one of these catergory below:
Reversing around the corner
Turning in the road
Reverse parking
During the test, you will have 10 minutes of independent driving to see you driving and making decisions independently.
Ensure, you drive the way your instructor taught you. If you feel you made a mistake don't hesitate as it may be a minor driving fault that wouldn't affect your driving result.
The examiners will usually allow your driving instructor to accompany you while doing the test.
Must be over 16
Could be family or relatives
Can not take any part in the test
Will be able to see how you perform during the test.
In the test, there may be two people with you. One of them is an examiner and the other is the examiner's supervisor. You will need to allow the examiner's supervisor to come along, otherwise, your test will not continue. Don't worry! They won't say anything there just observing your examiners not you. That/s a relief. Right?
DVSA wants the best for their candidate. In case of bad lightning and bad weather, the test will be cancelled. This is due to the candidate's safety. If this were to happen DVSA will reschedule the appointment at no further cost. If your test is early in the morning, call as soon as you can on the day. if you call the day before, they won't be able to tell. If your test is in the afternoon, call the test centre later in the morning. The test centre is more likely to know if the roads will be suitable for your test.
