Drishyam, the Film making and Photography society of PGDAV (Evening) College, University of Delhi organized a workshop on The Art of Storytelling with Camera on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. The guest speaker of the workshop was Sachin Chauhan, an internationally recognized street photographer who has been awarded various awards for his work. The workshop was open for other colleges as well and around 80 registrations were there for the workshop. The participants were highly excited for the event.
The workshop started with the ignition of deep which made the atmosphere of the seminar hall pure. The host then introduced the chief guest to the participants. Then, the host called upon the stage, the convener of Drishyam, Ms. Garima Bhardwaj Ma’am to grace the workshop with her words. She extended her gratitude to our speaker for giving his precious time to the workshop. She introduced the speaker to the participants and informed them about the awards he has won globally. Next, the host called upon the stage, convener to felicitate the speaker with Ohm and the annual magazine of PGDAV (Evening) College, Nilambara. The host then called upon stage, the speaker to take over the workshop.
The speaker initiated the workshop by informing the participants, his life experiences and the way he chose photography as a career. He told the participants about the struggle that a newbie photograph has to face while trying to explore the field. The speaker presented his photographs and the ways he shot them. He informed the participants about how angle and background plays a vital role in photography. He told the participants about the role of leading lines in a photograph and how very normal scenery can be turned into an award winning picture with a right mindset. He showcased his works and the key to click those pictures. “A photographer has to be decisive to turn his worst work into his best one”, he said. He then put in light, a series which he has been working on and will work on it till the very end. The name of the series was “In search of light”, a photography series that amazes the viewers with the photos and make them realize the importance of blending colors.
This was proceeded by the Question-Answer round where the participants were given chance to ask the questions to the speaker. “Why did you choose street photography over any other field”, a participant asked. “I did not choose street photography, it chose me. The way I used to contemplate about the environment and the scene was something that attracted me towards it and I ended learning and working on it”, he answered. “Would you recommend some good books for any aspiring street photographer?” asked Vaani Rastogi, a member of Drishyam. “The Art of Street Photography, by Hargobin Pachat is one of my favorite books”, he answered. A lot of questions were put forward by the participants which were happily answered by the speaker.
Now the host invited Ms. Garima Bhardwaj for the vote of thanks. Ms. Garima thanked the principal for being so kind to support the workshop. She thanked the speaker of the day who came and put forward his ideas and work in the workshop. She thanked the participants and the members of Drishyam for being there to support the workshop. The workshop ended on this note. Overall the workshop was a grand success. The participants were really happy to be a part of it and learnt a lot from it.
