About David R. Hammontree

David R. Hammontree is an Administrator, Educator, and Public Servant with a career focused on helping people understand complex information and work through complicated processes. With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, David brings a practical approach centered on clear communication, consistency, and getting things done the right way.

David serves as an Associate Professor and has been a program administrator for over 16 years. He has taught at both two year and four-year institutions, public and private. His work helps people understand information, ask better questions, and communicate clearly. That same focus carries into his public service, where clarity and consistency matter in everyday interactions.

What sets David apart is not abstract leadership. It is how he works. His background requires him to listen, communicate clearly, and move discussions toward decisions that people can rely on. He focuses on making sure things work the way people expect them to, without unnecessary confusion or delay.

David has taken that approach into his civic service. Through his work on multiple city and county boards and commissions, he has gained direct experience with how decisions are made and how different offices interact. More importantly, he has experience working alongside others to keep those processes moving and to avoid the kind of confusion and inconsistency residents often encounter.

David’s background also includes a strong academic foundation. He is a first generation college graduate who began at Illinois Central College and continued at the University of Illinois, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Political Science. He also earned a master’s degree and PhD in English Studies from Illinois State University. He was born in Peoria, Illinois and raised in both urban and rural communities in central Illinois.

David and his wife, Amanda, have lived in the City of Jackson since 2010 with various groupings of cats. David enjoys reading across a wide range of genres, with a particular interest in nonfiction and comic books.
