In 1990 I started my first service business detailing automobiles and repairing lawnmowers. Never did I have a day during peak mowing season that I wasn't busy! But a seasonal business takes its toll on the finances. The doors closed and I hung out a shingle from my home. Stayed busy despite the lack of a shop. I took on other jobs and other responsibilities and let the dream fade.
In 2009, I was again seeing the dream. With a solid business plan, solid finances and a new location, I sat down with a hammer in hand and literally began removing a lawn mower wheel by force. I had four more lawn mowers lined up by the end of the day! I then opened new accounts with old contacts and I was up and running.
Dr. G's is two-fold in the name. The original business site was owned at one time by my uncle. The convenience store was called Mr. G's. Mr. G's sold to a not too distant relative and then the doors were closed a few years later. The building went on to be Red Hills Auto and I detailed and repaired many "Cowboy Cadillac's" and polished a few "diamonds".
In my nearly twenty years of other work and life changes I managed to earn two doctoral degrees. Neither have anything to do with my work other than who I am. So, Dr. G's was born.
More than lawn mower repair; More than lawn mower parts. Dr. G's took on many facets of the retail industry. As business's closed their doors in our small town, I took on portions of each: Shipping via UPS, Western Star Seasoned Flour sales, Automotive parts procurement, and limited automotive repairs. I then added to that 30+ years of computer knowledge in Computer repair and Computer Security (aka AVG CloudCare now AVAST Business Cloudcare). There is no longer a SLOW season!
With the help of the internet we can now locate and order just about any part or item for any job. Dr. G's has business accounts with the major players, Amazon.com and eBay.com, as well as small engine distributors: Honda, Kohler, Kawasaki, and Briggs and Stratton. We service and repair most brands of small engine equipment: Poulan, Husqvarna, Stihl, Homelite, Ryobi, MultiPower, Lifan, etc. In the Automotive realm we can order all domestic vehicle parts direct from the manufacturers distributors or aftermarket via O'Reilly's Automotive, NAPA, and Autozone.
None of this would be possible without the consumer and my loyal customers. My goal is still to provide the most service at an affordable price to the most customers as my time will allow.
