What to expect from a consultation

What can I expect from a consultation?

During a face to face consult the following can be expected:

• A full medical consultation
• Physical examinations relevant to the condition of the patient
• Specific diagnostic examinations to determine imbalance: Pulse and tongue diagnosis, urine and stool analysis
• Referral for further investigations (as needed)
• Diagnosis
• Treatment: this may involve a variety of treatment methods outlined in the Unani Tibb Scope of practice which may include the following depending on the illness condition of the patient:
  • Lifestyle advice: Advice on dietary recommendations suitable for your temperament and illness, Sleep health, Exercise, Mental/emotional health, detoxification, Breathing exercises
  • Herbal treatment: various Unani Tibb Formulations (herbal teas, electuaries, oils, ointments, herbal pills or capsules and more)
  • Regimental Therapies: Humoural massage, Cupping therapy (dry, fire or wet cupping), Purgation and more

Telehealth/Telemedicine consultations

Dear Client

Due to the current pandemic, it is advised that Telemedicine/telehealth online video consultations be conducted as far as possible during this time as to limit any possible risk to the patient, practitioner and the public given the recommendations for social distancing. This is in order to ensure health care services are still being provided during this national period of shutdown and during the Covid-19 pandemic and to achieve the objects of the Act to protect the health of the public and all practitioners and therapists, I am to adhere to the guidelines outlined by the AHPCSA to practice telehealth and telemedicine.

The following will be required by the client for the telehealth/telemedicine consultation:

• Stable internet connection,
• Smartphone or pc/laptop,
• installed Hangouts application on smartphone/Gmail account on Pc,
• Relatively quiet environment,
• Clear front camera on smartphone or pc/laptop,
• Sufficient data for video consultation for min 15min to an hour (between 200MB-1G).
