For this project I had to find examples of CyberSecurity in the news and evaluate my sources. I also took CCBC cyber training and earned a certificate.
I learned that these scams and ransomware attacks happen more often than people think and they happen all over the world. When I was in middle school, BCPS experienced a ransomware attack and I thought that it was a relatively rare occurance but this lesson proved that it is not.
Lockbit 3.0, a criminal hacking organization, is threatening Fulton County officials with leaking sensitive information. The officials gave the following statement to fox news “If we determine that peoples’ personal information was involved in this incident, we will make all legally required notifications and provide them with resources to help protect their personal information.” Fulton County missed the first deadline set by the hackers and there were no consequences. Since the attacks the county has restored the online transaction system for water billing and its email.

Over 100 hotels in Japan have fallen victim to email scams that try to steal customers credit card information using the reservation site "Booking.com." Some customers of the hotels say they lost money because the scammers succeeded in stealing their credit card information. The scammers are sending emails to the hotels which contain a link that infects the computer when clicked. The scammers then use booking.coms credentials to send payment requests to customers, telling them their reservation will be cancelled if they do not pay.
