Dreams are a source of inspiration for writers, artists, and creative professionals for generations, but recent Generative AI (GenAI) tools make it possible to use natural language to record details of dreams in image form for creativity support. This workshop invites Creativity and Cognition participants working in creative fields with interest in recording and utilizing their dream materials to use GenAI to support their dream documentation.
Our workshop aims to foster a community of dream-inspired creative support by connecting those practitioners together in an activity-driven shared experience. Participants will be grouped into pairs to share and re-interpret the narratives in their dream recordings. We will then allow them to work with the GenAI tool MidJourney, focusing on formulating effective prompting to elaborate on the dream journal or sketch records they bring into the workshop, and getting inspiration from the GenAI process. Each group will employ MidJourney to transform their dream records as narratives into visual representations that can inspire further specific instantiation of the previous dream experience. Participants are encouraged to creatively blend their dream journal entries with the AI-generated images, producing new visual story work with an innovative storyline. We will demonstrate the potential of dreams and GenAI as catalysts for creative storytelling and innovation by this visual reinterpretation process.
