Hello Everyone! It is so crazy to think that this is the 5th blog post, we are so close to our summer bridge crossing ceremony! This week’s readings Shitty First Drafts by Anne Lamott and The Craft of Research were very informative and really helped ease me about writing my very first research article.
One of the tips that really stood out to me in both writings was going back and revising your draft more than once. In Shitty First Drafts it states, “Now, practically even better news than that of short assignments is the idea of shitty first drafts. All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts.” (Lamott 1) I think this was important for me to read because when in high school we were given smaller essays to write and I would sort of rush to get them done, without really going back to revise my work and make it my best work. This is also why I found it funny when the first line of The Craft of Research when said “Some new researchers think that once they’ve churned out a draft, they’re done.” (Booth 1) Because I did the same thing throughout high school.
With this research article, I plan to do a few revisions and edits. So that I can be proud of my work and turn it in knowing that I put my best work in.
