Hello, again readers welcome to my 4th Blog Post! I found that this week's readings of 8 Types of Survey Questions to Get You All the Data You Need by Nemanja Jovancic and How to Analyze Data in a Primary Research Study by Melody Denny & Lindsay Clark, were one the most helpful readings we’ve been assigned.
I’ve taken many surveys in the past. Actually, I think I've taken the most surveys in my ALS summer bridge class. But I’ve never created my own survey, which is the assignment for this week. So reading these two readings has really helped me in shaping what I believe to be a pretty strong survey for my research article. One of the main things that I learned and pretty much implemented in my own survey was the tip of “deciding on the exact goals of your survey beforehand will make the choice of an adequate survey question type much easier.” (Jovanic 1) This is a pretty simple tip but it truly was something that I had to sit and do a few times while creating my survey. I had to think of what I wanted as well as think about who my intended demographic was because of the fact that my article will be more focused on students of color.
One thing I want to really go back and do is re-read How to Analyze Data in a Primary Research Study when the time comes for me to go ahead and analyze the data that I received on my survey. In that reading, it said, “ Primary research can seem daunting, and some students might think that they don't do primary research, that this type of research is for professionals and scholars” (Denny & Clark 87). That really resonated with me because I felt, and still currently feel that way about this whole project.
