African American Women served in every capacity during WWII. They were test pilots for the airforce and navy, members of the typing corps, and nurses. Unfortunately, most received lower pay than their white counterparts as well as low to no veteran's benefits. Indeed, their experience in WWII reflected the segregation of the 1940s.
