I'm a Naturopathic Doctor, focusing on long term lifestyle change. We look at the ten year outcome of this particular set of choices for your life.
After being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2015 (there's a book), I've dedicated my life to my family and to serving everyone I can. Since then I've cut back on my practice, increased my book writing, and increased my hours with my family.
Some of you might be looking for my medical pedigree. I have it up at Amazon, along with my books. Here it is:
Dr. Christopher Maloney graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A., Harvard University Extension with a premedical diploma, and received his doctorate as an N.D. at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. After a decade of family practice, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and cut back on his office hours to dedicate himself to writing books on orphaned diseases. He partners with patients to find their way out of complex illness patterns to health using alternative and conventional medicine as the spice to a complete diet and lifestyle plan.
Want more about me? Here's eight minutes of me explaining why I became an N.D., how I work, and what excites me about the profession. Other than more grey hair and a better sense of my own mortality, it's still true.
Have a little longer or just want to listen? Here's a talk I did about chronic back pain with Dr. Jeannette Gallagher.
I could give you a laundry list of what I might help with and leave out your diagnosis. It’s easier to email me (docmaloneynd@gmail.com) and ask. Or you can take a glimpse into my brain to see how I work.
There are three areas that I have uncommon success.
1) Multiple symptoms that don’t match a specific diagnosis. Rather than treating three diseases, we need to treat one whole process. I have had success when multiple doctors from various backgrounds and specialties have been baffled.
2) A real second opinion. Unless your doctor has told you about functional medicine, Chinese medicine, energic medicine, emotional/physical medicine, and Ayurvedic medicine you haven’t gotten the whole picture of treatment options.
3) Chronic pain that defies diagnosis. If you have pain, but lack visible organic illness, it is likely that your current doctors think that pain is mental rather than physical. My own view is that the body holds and maintains physical pain in response to chronic stress, and will continue to do so unless allowed to release it.
Here are links to hundreds of my specific answers, giving a sense of how I think about illness. They will take you to my blog (below) or Quora (over 500k views).
I can schedule within two weeks for acute issues. Look at my calendar here.
4 Drew Street, Augusta Me 04330
From the Turnpike, Take Exit 109A into Augusta. Merge onto Western Ave. (202) and get into the left lane. You will pass the Shaw’s Plaza on your right and the airport exit on your left. Drew Street is three blocks further on, a left turn across two lanes so slow down and signal.
When you turn into Drew, you’ll go down the first block, past the stop sign, and the house/office will be on your left. The front of the building should be plowed, but you are also welcome to park in the driveway if it’s available. Text me if you have difficulty (207) 623 -1681.
Here's a link to the google map.
We cannot change the field of medicine without fundamentally changing the way in which it is practiced.
Once you’ve been through the battery of tests and procedures, with or without results, you still need to make sense of the illness. I help people make sense of what has happened, and in the process we often find improvements that we can make in their lives.
Many doctors are better than I am within their medical philosophies and specialties. I honor them and refer to them as necessary.
My role is one of broad perspective, nonjudgmental assessment of all your treatment plans.
All your treatment plans, not just the ones you've told your regular doctors. I’ve seen radiation, faith healing, surgeries, meditation, drugs, and distance energy projections work. If your doctor hasn't talked about Chinese, Ayurvedic, Functional, Eclectic, Herbal, Christian, Reiki, and Somatic options, then you don't know everything you can try yet. I can provide context and assessment without having a stake in whether you get a second surgery or you need to sign up for that private German health spa cure.
If I am not familiar with a disease process, procedure, or treatment, I will educate myself. I am glad to learn from or teach any health care practitioner. In our long visits, I spend a great deal of time with my patients and get to know them as people rather than diseases. We do not stop trying to heal the whole person simply because conventional medicine does not have a name for an illness.
Beyond my patients, I focus on having a balanced life, and limit the number of patients I see. When I sit down with patients I want to give them an uninterrupted visit so I do not respond to telephone calls during the day.
When I can get back to you, you get me and not someone else. Email is the most efficient way to get a response: docmaloneynd@gmail.com.
For a 75 minute appointment, I charge $150.
I don’t take insurance (most coverage for N.D.s is spotty at best, and insurers like medicare only cover me after repeated petitioning). If you have an HSA or flexible spending account, I can provide you with an itemized bill. In the past my laboratory work and medications have been covered by insurance, but we live in an uncertain healthcare world. My preference is to be wholly focused on you as a patient.
Email me with questions or for an appointment time: docmaloneynd@gmail.com.
