Ten Tools To Cope With Chaos

I’m alive today because it was cold on the day I tried to kill myself. 

25 years later: “You have cancer. That’s your problem.” “I don’t want to die!” 

What changed?

1. Breathing box breathing, 4x4 or 4x6-8

2. Listening-music, matching or decreasing heart rate, nostalgia wins!

3. Praying-find a faith, or create your own. 2 years more life in context.

4. Laughing not longer, but better life. Jokes.

5. Loving  Oxytocin is a pleiotropic molecule with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties

6. Learning - video games and driving

7. Medicating: antidepressants=anxiolytics, unclear benefit, individualize/supplement

8. Vacationing - +10 days vacation, 30% drop in women’s depression. No travel^depression

9. Exploring Mental time travel (MTT), reexperience past and preexperience future 

10. Engaging For adults, a prolonged period of solitary confinement (3 to 4 weeks) can cause a host of both physical and mental health issues.

Nine in ten Gen Z adults experienced stress before COVID began. In my classroom, 40% of them thought they would die of COVID. 980 out of a million.
