Low-Cost and Open-Source Three-Axis CNC Router for PCB Prototyping

Title: Low-Cost and Open-Source Three-Axis CNC Router for PCB Prototyping

Team Members: Mr. Birabrata Seal (Senior Technical Superintendent, Department of ECE, IIIT Guwahati), Mr. Raushan Kumar (Junior Technical Superintendent, Department of ECE, IIIT Guwahati) and Dr. Babita Jajodia (Assistant Professor, IIIT Guwahati)

Purpose to Develop Prototype??: A low-cost three-axis Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Router was developed using free open-source software and firmware. The purpose of this machine is to help us prototype Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) as well as fabricate antennas for PCBs.

Introduction: Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are integral components of all electronic products because they embed and electrically connect all the components of the circuit. The size of embedded and microelectronic circuits is shrinking, which has forced PCB designers to become more sophisticated. In order to create the prototype of any electronics product, it is absolutely imperative that the PCBs be designed and fabricated. The PCB design directly impacts the size and power requirements of an electronic circuit, as well as the quality of the signals within the circuit. For rapid prototyping and fabricating printed circuit boards, PCB Prototyping Machines are an essential piece of hardware in any Electronics R&D Laboratory.
