What is Battle of the Books?
DHES participates in Battle of the Books along with other CCSD schools
Students compete in a trivia style competition with questions about the SC Children's Book Award Nominees (chapter books)
4th and 5th grade students can sign up to participate
Students can have up to 5 people on a team. The team as a whole needs to read as many of the 20 as possible to have the best chance at being able to answer the questions. (If there is a team of 5, then they will all read 4 books)
Timeline of Events
August-October: Students will begin reading the SC Children's Book Nominees and deciding if they want to participate
November: Students will form a team and sign up with Ms. Wright
December: Students should have a plan of who will read what books in their group and finish reading their books over winter break
January: Take the written group competition (teammates can help each other answer multiple choice questions) during school
Based on their scores, teams will be placed for the next round of competition, which will be a verbal round with buzzers for students.
February: DHES will hold the school competition (with buzzers) with participating teams during school. Pairs of teams will battle each other until we have a DHES championship team.
March: The DHES winning team will represent our school at the district wide book battle (tentatively scheduled for March 1st)
