Children are the hope of our planet’s future. As a creative and design explorer, conceptualize a poster representing a child from your neighborhood or a child from another part of the world that needs our attention. Search for human stories or tell us one from your place of birth or memories.
What is happening to children around the world? You will advocate for a child through the creation of a poster. Your solution, imagery, and iconography will metaphorically depict a child’s personality, culture, environment, family situation, or education. You may send a message of happiness or not, by infusing bright colors or visually representing a dark topic of concern, respectively. The goal is to make us more aware of children’s livelihoods worldwide. The term ‘draw’ means telling a story representing a child's life. To express your point of view on a critical issue or cause articulating a message in a visual language system, format, and structure.

You will be assigned to a collaborating team of international peers. Please check the COIL GROUPS BELOW (coming soon!).

STEP 2: View the lectures by the collaborating Professors.
STEP 3: Upload all your collaborative research to Padlet via a group video (MP4)- Due Feb 21st- 25th, 2024

Research your topic of interest from different angles. Find out everything about your topic and engage in a discussion with your peers. Read related articles and share.
Identify conceptual artists working on the subject.
Write a brief paragraph stating your point of view and a possible creative direction. What is your creative direction sentence? How do you metaphorically express the idea? How do you plan to execute it?

STEP 4: Brainstorm ideas using semiotic techniques, typography, and imagery to create a visual solution.

Sketch ideas individually and share them with your peers for feedback. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO COLLABORATE, please schedule your Zoom meetings in advance. Document the process!! Create mp4s (upload to YouTube) with research and sketches- send all materials and YouTube links via Canvas (FIU students)

2. Work on three layouts and moodboards. Share them with your assigned team; meet to discuss ideas.

STEP 5: - Upload finished layouts to Padlet (and to Canvas for FIU students)- March 7th-9th, 2024

1. Finish your work, discuss it, and revise it! EDITING WORK IS IMPORTANT
2. Professors will be available for feedback and meetings. Email your educators with any questions and or to schedule a meeting. Remember to follow the deadlines that your professors gave you. (FIU students should also upload their layouts to canvas)

STEP 6: Final work due- March 17th, 2024
You must upload your work and documentation of the process by the assigned date.

1. Upload your finished work to the link provided. Name your folder, add a word page with your name and the name of the participants,
and include a statement.

Any technique is acceptable. Consider mixing techniques and 2D-3D approaches. Make sure to title your poster. Create the file at 300 dpi 18 x 24. Save it with your name and title. Additionally, upload a self-reflection on the collaborative experience and learning process.
