Often, when we think of a “heart attack,” we think of symptoms like sharp chest pain and fainting. But it’s not the same for everyone.
Heart attack symptoms in women are often different and therefore difficult to recognize.
In this blog, we will talk about how a heart attack can look different in women and why it is important to recognize it on time.
Shortness of breath
Sudden feeling of extreme fatigue or weakness
Stomach pain or indigestion (feeling like gas)
Pain in the back, neck, jaw or shoulder
Mild dizziness or nervousness
Sleeplessness or restlessness
Note: These symptoms can be very mild and people often ignore them because they think it’s “just fatigue” or “gas.”
Hormonal effects: Hormones such as estrogen affect the heart differently in women.
Blockages in small arteries: Women often have blockages in small veins (microvessels) rather than large veins, which may not be visible in routine tests.
Lifestyle and stress: Household responsibilities, mental stress and social pressure also affect heart health.
Many women delay their symptoms thinking they are “normal weakness”. This can cause more damage to the heart.
If not treated on time, a heart attack can be fatal.
