Setting Journal Prompt #1

In two (2) paragraphs, respond to the following prompt due at the end of the period.

Time Period of Our Town vs. Time Period of Writing Our Town

1. Open and explore each of the above websites to discover major events and/or developments from the above time periods.
2. Paragraph #1: Choose at least two (2) major events and/or developments from each time period to summarize.
3. Paragraph #2: Make a prediction about how the effects of the events may: 1. affect the theme(s) of the play and 2. affect the playwright while writing.

Setting Journal Prompt #2

Research time period-specific trends and other references (e.g. idioms, aphorisms) from the play such as: telescopes, cigarettes, heliotrope, solid geometry, parson, trellis, farce, torrents, Philo system, incubator, phosphate, lumbago, sermon, sacrament, clergyman, rheumatism, death bed, epitaph, Cicero, and livery.

Throughout our reading of Our Town, add on to your personal vocabulary list. After each act, we will vote on a class vocabulary list from the words you have collected. By the end of the unit, you will be responsible for the words on our class collected list.
