"To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step." - Rosa Parks
Today’s young people face more pressure than ever. It’s not easy to juggle relationships, friendships, school, work, sports, extra curricular activities, plus responsibilities at home. There are so many expectations! If you’re a teen, it can feel like you have to have everything figured out right now--What are you doing after graduation? Are you going to college? What are you going to do with your life? If you’re a young adult, you’re often left with the question: Now what? It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure.
Anxiety, depression, OCD, perfectionism, low self-esteem, problems with motivation . . On top of this, there may be issues around trauma, grief and loss, family conflict, or major life changes. Whatever the case, it’s good to know there is always hope. You can feel more confident, content, and empowered even when you’re in the middle of a difficult situation. Reaching out for support is often the first step toward feeling better.
First of all, you get to be in charge. You set the agenda and decide what goals you want to work on: If things were better, what would be different? How do you want things to change? My goal is to create a space where you can speak from your heart and talk about the things that matter, trusting that you're not being judged and your privacy is respected.
Once we’ve established what the goals are, then we work on finding ways to improve your life. We’ll talk a lot about the way you think about things and we'll challenge negative beliefs and thoughts. We’ll develop strategies to deal with stress and anxiety and discuss how to set and maintain boundaries. We’ll also connect the dots--having a deeper understanding of why you think and feel the way you do can be an important piece in the healing process.
