Graduate Students
I accept enquiries from students interested in researching the following topics:
Museum Collections
The Antiquities Market
Digital Technologies (including 3D models, 3D printing, AR/VR/XR, Artificial Intelligence)
Outreach and accessible education for archaeology/ museums
While my background is in Mesoamerican/ ancient Maya archaeology, I am not actively researching in this area anymore and would not be a good fit for supervision of the region unless you are interested in combining with the topics listed above.
I will be accepting enquiries for graduate supervision beginning 2027 from September-December 2026 (please do not contact me prior to September about graduate supervision for next year). Please submit your CV and transcript(s) with your email enquiry (ctremain@sfu.ca).Â
You should also review the information about graduate studies at the Department of Archaeology at SFU here. Also note that the Department expects eligible students to apply for SSHRC MA or PhD Scholarships.
Expectations
My role is not simply to support and supervise your research, I am also here to help you develop skills and connect you to experiences that further your long-term career goals. Therefore, I expect my graduate students to be active participants in their educational journey and take opportunities (where possible) to publish, present at conferences, work as a Teaching Assistant, and contribute to outreach initiatives.
