My current efforts (2018-present) focus on developing illustrations for education and outreach use. I hold a Certificate in Natural Science Illustration (UW, 2019) and have select availability for freelance projects and consultations.
Please see my Art portfolio to see examples of my work or reach out about a custom illustration commission.
At UW:
I was an officer of the Neuroscience Community Outreach Group at UW from 2010-2017, working to make the brain accessible to a variety of groups in the local community. NCOG efforts particularly focus on interactive, hands-on lessons. Through my volunteer experiences with this group, I have had opportunities to curate and communicate scientific content to a variety of age groups.
In 2013, I presented our outreach work the Brain Awareness Week Campaign Event at the annual SfN meeting (co-authors: Hiro Watari and Braulio Peguero). The focus of our presentation was The Brain Question, an NCOG resource where visitors can submit questions to be answered directly by members of our group.
At the Pacific Science Center:
From 2012 to 2017, I was a Science Communication Fellow at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. I developed and regularly presented an interactive activity based on my dissertation work at Meet a Scientist events, and acted as a resource to new cohorts of fellows.
In 2013, I served on the advisory committee for the development of an exhibit featured at The Studio. Minds and Machines, on display Jun-Dec 2013, introduced the public to neuroengineering concepts and connected them to the work of local researchers.
