[Multiscale Manufacturing]
Machining-based manufacturing processes are mainly performed in multi-scale (nano-micro-meso-macro). The machining mechanism depending on its scale is analyzed. Then, the manufacturing processes are optimized, considering the machining characteristics.
In addition, researches on advanced manufacturing processes (e.g. cryogenic machining, additive manufacturing, highly-flexible manufacturing) are conducted. In case of the cryogenic machining process, liquid nitrogen (LN2) is used as a coolant to enhance the machinability by reducing cutting temperature. The effects of cryogenic coolant are studied, focusing on machining results including cutting force, cutting temperature, tool wear, etc. In the additive manufacturing, various types of additive manufacturing technologies (e.g. SLA, DED, ... ) are carried out, and the influence of process conditions on the additive quality is analyzed. Furthermore, post-processing processes are studied. In the highly-flexible manufacturing, the purpose is build a robot-based manufacturing platform that can improve the manufacturing freedom.
