i'm connected using cable (Ethernet) and i have a wifi usb adapter (TP-Link / TL-WN727N) and want to share wifi through it, when i followed the steps to do that (wifi settings --> three dots --> turn on wifi hotspot)

i found the option with gray color (disabled) i can't click on it.

As you will see, or maybe already know, Ideally you need to connect your PC with ethernet cable to a 1gig router and use it's dedicated 5Ghz wifi as close by as possible. Wifi-only and wifi hotspots do not work well so do not believe everything you see on YouTube. Even the Virtual Desktop developer states that wifi hotspots (esp. ones using a pcie card) are not a good alternative.

If you were about to spend money anyway, buy a router. Skip all the network card stuff, all the hotspot, a simple router is all you need. mine cost me like 40$USD it is wifi6 nothing fancy, and i am VD user, it has been rock solid for the past 2 years, like rock solid!. As I want to use NINA as the image acquisition software in the field, I've purchased a mini PC, everything working fine but I'm running into a trouble to configure the hotspot to make it automatically turn on when it is booted. I will not have wifi in the field so I need a reliable hotspot. It is a Mele fanless quieter2, running on Win 10 Pro, and just to be clear I'm able to turn the hotspot on manually (i.e. after login and connected to a wifi) but not sure how to automate win 10 to turn it on whenever it is booted (and without wifi).

I follow a reference from the lazy geek channel to install Persistent Hotspot app ( =asSfA6HVHAc), it helps to turn the hotspot on but only when a wifi is connected, it seems I need to create a script or something to run it when during the startup ( -bhuttoo/PersistentHotspot)

Unless something has changed recently, the Windows Mobile Hotspot does not support what you are trying to do. The hotspot makes the host computer's internet connection available for other computers to use (ie. internet connection sharing). It doesn't give you remote access to the host computer itself, which is what you need to access it with Remote Desktop. For reliable remote access to your imaging computer when in the field, you need a wifi router (a cheap mini USB router works just fine).

I'm banging my head against the wall on the same exact issue. I watched cuivs vid so thought I didnt need a router, now im realizing this doesnt work unless you have internet and only works for him since he only images from the roof of his apartment....

also wondering how you can remote desktop on an ipad to the mini pc in the field without itnernet- it wants to use my microsoft account email and passworkd to log in and go through their server, so i dont know how that would work even if I got a router and cant figure out how else to log in.

trying to set up everything that should be so simple is needlessly frustrating with little info.

I think I can set up a mobile hotspot form my phone in the field that the mini pc will connect to to start the hotspot, but not sure how that will work in places with spotty/no reception
