Why in Advanced sharing settinggs the Turn on network discovery can't save the settings in Windows Server 2019 Preview? Although as an admin I turn it on and save settings, it's again off when I open Advanced sharing settinggs.

Hi , I was not able to install WD discovery on a new laptop, though its been running without problems on 4 other machines on my network. I tried the link that dazdar submitted above and it worked. Immediately after it informed me that the software was out of date so I updated it, which installed exactly the same installer I had been struggling with and it failed just as it had before. Then I got that strange conspiracy theory feeling and decided to accept to share my personal data with WD, and it installed like a charm!. I think that WD is making more money on data mining than on selling drives.

Discovery can be configured to be on standard or basic mode. Use the standard option to actively find devices in your network, which will better guarantee the discovery of endpoints and provide richer device classification.

You can customize the list of devices that are used to perform standard discovery. You can either enable standard discovery on all the onboarded devices that also support this capability (currently - Windows 10 or later and Windows Server 2019 or later devices only) or select a subset or subsets of your devices by specifying their device tags.

Standard discovery uses various PowerShell scripts to actively probe devices in the network. Those PowerShell scripts are Microsoft signed and are executed from the following location: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Downloads\*.ps. For example, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Downloads\UnicastScannerV1.1.0.ps1.

If there are devices on your network that shouldn't be actively scanned (for example, devices used as honeypots for another security tool), you can also define a list of exclusions to prevent them from being scanned. Note that devices can still be discovered using Basic discovery mode and can also be discovered through multicast discovery attempts. Those devices will be passively discovered but won't be actively probed.

You control where device discovery takes place. Monitored networks are where device discovery is performed and are typically corporate networks. You can also choose to ignore networks or select the initial discovery classification after modifying a state.

Choosing the initial discovery classification means applying the default system-made network monitor state. Selecting the default system-made network monitor state means that networks that were identified to be corporate, are monitored, and ones identified as non-corporate, are ignored automatically.

I find the Network and Sharing Center interface to be somewhat confusing and not very intuitive. What you can try is to share a folder (from Windows Explorer rather than the Network and Sharing Center or Computer Management consoles) so that Windows can enable the appropriate settings to turn on sharing and network discovery rather than you trying to figure it out in the Network and Sharing Center.

I am having difficulty turning on network discovery on Windows XP; Currently our server is not shown in the 'Network' section of a client computer, but I can ping the server. My system admin said I should turn on network discovery on the server.

Hello,

As defined in the title, I configure the discovery Methods on my Lab but only Users i created and SCCM01 computer are reconnignised. I cannot keep on configure Client Push Installation.

Could someone tell me what 's going wrong please?

Bellow, the screenshot of my discovery methods

In some cases, the agent install command appears to fail. For example, a failure can appear with the Windows Services Manager showing that the discovery services are not being created. In this case, add /log install.log to the command to generate a verbose installation log.

I looked through the settings in the discovery template, and I cannot see where to disable them. I looked through the properties on the Application Monitor and it's respective Template, and I cannot see how this is all linked up.

You cannot eliminate particular scan types from being performed during the Network Sonar Discovery. There are however some fairly significant discovery improvements included in the SAM 6.3 release (currently in beta), which should address your concerns.

You mentioned that 6.3 was going to address this, but, I am not at all sure where to look. I reviewed my discovery settings, and nothing appeared to be there regarding which applications are automatically scanned during discovery.

WifiDirect works atleast over Windows 10 & 8.1 in UWP apps using PeerFinder library. However using this lib you can perform discovery either PC to PC OR mobile to mobile NOT PC to mobile or vice versa.

But note that It is PeerFinder library limitation NOT wifi-direct. You still can use underlying wifi-direct libraries for advertisement & discovery. It is possible and i have tested this atleast between window desktop app & windows mobile (NOT with Android).

Network discovery allows your computer can see other network computers and devices, and is visible to other network computers. This article describes how to turn on or off the network discovery feature.

We have a 6.5 xenapp farm which will be decommissioned soon but it has suddenly developed an issue when trying to open the Citrix Appcenter console. You try to run discovery but get the error "Errors occurred when using server in the discovery process". There are no errors in the event log, all services are running. From the users side they are still connecting and using a couple of apps.

The Arduino IDE automatically updates this tool whenever a new version becomes available. Windows Firewall requires you to add a new firewall allow list entry for each new application that tries to communicate through the network, so you will get this after each the new version of "mdns-discovery" is released by Arduino.

The mdns-discovery tool is only used by the Arduino IDE to list the network ports available on your computer for OTA uploads to Arduino boards, as you can do with the MKR 1000, ESP8266, and ESP32 boards.

To share resources (File Sharing) between 2 or more computers on the same LAN you need Samba which by default comes with Network discovery (After having Samba installed) activated. It will work for your local network but you need to remember to set the workgroup to the one the network is using.

Now to edit the Samba configuration and make sure you are on the same network workgroup. The workgroup should be the same for all machines in your LAN. This way, they can actually take advantage of the network discovery between Windows and Ubuntu or Ubuntu and Ubuntu machines.

Adversaries may attempt to get a listing of open application windows. Window listings could convey information about how the system is used.[1] For example, information about application windows could be used identify potential data to collect as well as identifying security tooling (Security Software Discovery) to evade.[2]

Monitor for API calls (such as GetForegroundWindow()) that may attempt to get a listing of open application windows. GetForegroundWindow api returns a handle to the foreground window (the window with which the user is currently working). Other API calls relevant to Local Group discovery include GetProcesses and GetForegroundWindow. GetProcesses api returns an array of type Process that represents all the process resources running on the local computer.

Monitor for newly executed processes that may attempt to get a listing of open application windows. System and network discovery techniques normally occur throughout an operation as an adversary learns the environment. Data and events should not be viewed in isolation, but as part of a chain of behavior that could lead to other activities based on the information obtained.

Network discovery refers to a setting that affects whether your PC is detected by other computers on the network when it is connected to that specific network, and whether your PC can detect other PCs and devices, such as printers, on the network.

Whichever method you choose to approach network discovery on your Windows machine, it only takes a few easy steps to either shield your PC from the eyes of others or put out feelers that reach out to other networked entities.

Discovery computers find computers on the network that WatchGuard Endpoint Security does not manage. The first Windows computer that you add to WatchGuard Endpoint Security is automatically designated as the discovery computer.

The Microsoft SMS/SCCM Integration Plugin does not do this the same way. That imports Hyper-V Server (Server Core w/ Hyper-V role only) hosts into the Windows Server class. This means existing Hyper-V class CIs get reclassified/moved to the Windows Server table, together with the related Hyper-V Instances. A rediscovery causes a new Hyper-V CI to be created, and the one moved by SCCM is now a duplicate.

You have never ever managed to get simple media and file sharing to work correctly with your firewall. Also you break network discovery. This means other networked devices can not see my computer on the network.

I have been wrestling with trying to get network discovery to work for 2 days. I know it's your product because when I turn off your firewall, everything works. It works fine with security essentials (which is free from microsoft) I am checking the log for incoming request and outgoing request and I'm NOT seeing anything odd.

Network discovery is an absolutely basic and critical function. Media sharing is a basic function also. How you guys managed not to see this problem for 4 years is beyond me. A computer needs to have the ability to broadcast "I'm here" so other devices can connect to it. ff782bc1db
