I'd like to disable taskbar transparency in Windows 8 desktop. On Win7 disabling Aero was a hack to accomplish this goal, but this post from how-to-geek to disable Aero in Win7 & Vista no longer works in Windows 8. Is there another way to disable taskbar transparency in Windows 8 desktop?

Edit: On Win8 Aero was removed but the taskbar is transparent (the desktop background picture is slightly visible 'behind' the taskbar). When I'm using the taskbar to switch programs I don't like seeing artifacts 'bleeding-through', I find it distracting.

This doesn't actually fully work. Windows that are moved to slide under the taskbar are still visible. This bothers me every time I see it, so I'll continue to seek a complete fix (to turn off transparency for the desktop taskbar in Windows 8).

Its probably because u don't have the dedicated graphics drivers installed or u enabled the power saver. Actually I was also having the same question but when I realized about the same with windows aero for windows 7 if the drivers are not installed

Setting the tile background in the apps manifest just makes the background the users theme colour rather than actually transparent so I must of done something else, all of my assets for the Square 44x44 Logo of course have transparent backgrounds but I just get the tile background colour where there should be nothing.

Note: by default, the only one of the following settings which is enabled is the Desktop opacity. If you keep all of the other settings disabled, the taskbar will always appear how you set it in the Desktop settings. I'm sorry to hear that you're still having problems. I wonder if your problem is caused by a different issue. IMO, it's the windows update that fixed my video issue because I made no other changes, other than toggling transparency effects off and back on again. Who knows... weirder things have happened... toggling that setting may have added or corrected a registry setting that fixed things. 2351a5e196
