Depending on the type of job, you will need to create a curriculum vitae (CV) or a resume. Both documents put your qualification in writing, but they are used for different audiences and use a different format.

Senior personnel are required to certify that the information is current, accurate and complete. This includes, but is not limited to, information related to domestic and foreign appointments and positions. The certification language is included on both the NSF fillable PDF and SciENcv template.

In addition to the benefits to the merit review process, it is hoped that this template will provide a compliant and reusable format for PIs to maintain and update their collaborators and other affiliations information for use in subsequent proposal submissions to NSF.

You must use NSF's Collaborators and Other Affiliations Excel Template to prepare your information. The template has been developed to be fillable, however, the content and format requirements must not be altered as this will create printing and viewing errors.

This Curriculum Vitae format is the required formatting to be used for all faculty personnel reviews (e.g., promotion and tenure reviews) at UMBC. Generally, you should also attach a signed, dated statement to your curriculum vitae that attests that it is complete and accurate.

Your curriculum vitae (CV) is your professional biography. It is the main source of information about you that is provided to reviewers, both internal and external, who may be making a judgment on your future. Therefore, it is critical that you communicate your activities and accomplishments as clearly and comprehensively as possible in your CV. Make sure that your CV presents you in the best possible light.

The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) provides templates for the UMass Chan CV format in Microsoft Word. Use of a template is not required, but your CV should reflect the organization of the UMass Chan CV Format.

Standard CV Template. This template uses tables for formatting and contains instructions in italics (which should be deleted before finalizing your CV). It is designed for use with desktop versions of Microsoft Word. It is not recommended for use with Google Docs or the browser version of Word. Please read the instructions (linked below) before using the template.

Simplified CV Template. This template uses tabs for formatting and contains instructions in italics (which should be deleted before finalizing your CV). It can be used with Google Docs and both desktop and browser versions of Microsoft Word.

CV Template with Headings. This template consists of the section headings for the UMass Chan CV Format. Text can be copied-and-pasted into the appropriate section from other documents. It is designed particularly for newly-appointed faculty members and those with long CVs. It can be used with Google Docs and both desktop and browser versions of Microsoft Word. We strongly encourage faculty members using this template to convert their CVs subsequently to the UMass Chan CV Format using the Standard or Simplified Templates.

Research organisations, funding organisations and institutes of higher education can make use of the curriculum vitae template when they prepare their own guidelines. Organisations are advised to follow the headings and structure of the template when they prepare their own guidelines.

TENK recommends that organisations adopt the template in its original format. However, specific instructions on how to use the template must be provided in each situation. This is to ensure that the writer of the curriculum vitae complies with responsible conduct of research.

The curriculum vitae template is recommended to be used alongside the Good practice in researcher evaluation. Recommendation for the responsible evaluation of a researcher in Finland, produced by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies.

Used most frequently in academic settings, a CV (curriculum vitae) is also a summary of your experience and abilities, but a CV will include more credentials relevant to academia and research, such as publications, presentations, and references.

The CV, along with letters from internal and external referees and examples of scholarly work, provides the major evidence used during the evaluation of candidates for promotion. Therefore, accurate and complete reporting of contributions and achievements in the CV is essential. Below is some general guidance and templates for preparation of the CV.

Now that you have seen several examples of CV templates, let's talk about the basics. You want your CV to have a clean, distinctive appearance that attracts attention. The final product should be well organized, look professional and be easy to read. Follow these formatting tips below:
