The word satsanga is derived from Sanskrit, where 'sat' means "purity or truth" and 'sanga' meaning "in group or association". The main purpose of conducting satsanga by any organisation is for marking an important event in its history.[4][5][6] Participating in any satsanga is considered pious in Yogic sciences due to its benefits in spiritual upliftment of an aspirant.[7] Satsangs are generally conducted by any non-religious or spiritual organisations in large groups.[8]

Satsang is an aid on the yogic path to moksha (liberation from suffering and the cycle of death and rebirth). It helps to remove the negative thoughts, material attachments and mental obstacles that block this path. As such, satsang helps to keep people engaged in spiritually-centered thoughts and to maintain focus on their spiritual path.

New students feel the welcoming warmth of love and passion for yoga. Yoga brings the greatest joy to you, the atmosphere, and the world.

We end the satsang session by turning off our devices and meditating for 30 minutes on an inspirational passage. Each of us is in our own location, but by meditating together at the same time we will be spiritually united regardless of physical distance.

The satsang is an opportunity to be with Sadhguru as he opens a doorway to seekers from around the globe, to imbibe the spiritual possibilities of a full moon night. These satsangs can be an unprecedented possibility to render every full moon night into a stepping stone towards realizing your ultimate nature.

Once equipped with the resources and training needed, the Christian then tries to gather Hindus for a satsang. The Christian explains that sat means truth and sang means fellowship. Then he/she demonstrates a contextualized way to follow Christ in the Hindu context.

After you perform the first satsang for a group of Hindus, who is the most likely person to lead the satsang the next time? You are. After leading the first Bible study, who is most likely to lead the second? You are.

Remember that your role is that of a Alongsider, not a guide. The more you are the one to lead a satsang, Bible study, or any other experience, the more difficult it becomes to phase out of that role. And if you do manage to, your cultural fingerprints will still be left on what is continued.

Satsang is a Sanskrit word that means "gathering together for the Truth" or, more simply, "being with the Truth." Truth is what is real, what exists. So all there is, is Truth. Whenever something increases your experience of the Truth, it opens your Heart and quiets your mind. Conversely, whenever something, such as a thought, fear, or judgment, limits or narrows your experience of the Truth, the Heart contracts and the mind gets busier. We are all equally endowed with this capacity to discriminate the Truth. Thus, the true teacher, or satguru, is within you, and satsang, or being with the Truth, is endless. You have always been here in the embrace of your true nature as aware, loving space. You have always been in satsang.

What is the most important part of satsang or any spiritual gathering? Contrary to what you might expect, the most important thing in satsang is not the spiritual teacher sitting at the front of the room. A true spiritual teacher is an invaluable blessing, but the teacher is not the most important element.

Satsang is like taking a gentle, or sometimes not so gentle, bath in an enlarged experience of your own essence nature. Satsang is transmission. This is why Anandamayi Ma says that the path to first-hand knowledge of what is being said can open out as a result of attending satsang. For a time, people are relieved of maintaining a defensive posture toward life. Even when satsang is over, we retain some of this experience, and slowly, slowly, the rock of our defensiveness is worn away.

If you live anywhere from The Dalles to the coast, from Vancouver to Silverton, Shambhavi would be happy to show up and give satsang + kirtan at your house, yoga studio, yurt, yard, store, cafe, or co-housing project.

I chime the bells to signal the end of meditation and we close with a final Om. As we finish our weekly satsang, students begin to arrive for the asana class, the lights go up, the energy heightens, and the next week of activity at PPY begins supported by the deeper intention of all the students and teachers, to awaken to the truth of who we really are.

As we approach another turn of seasons, Sherry will continue with Monday morning satsang and offer an additional evening Satsang celebration of the Spring Equinox on Monday evening April 4, 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. We hope this will allow students who are unable to join in the morning Satsang, the opportunity to come together in community to explore the natural connections between our experience, the world around us and the worlds within.
