SecretFolder is a simple way to achieve something that many of us wish our operating systems did more easily; create a private or hidden folder. You can hide, lock and password protect folders on your computer. Whether you need this for privacy, security or ensuring data is inaccessible to other users - including hackers - this is the programme for you.

Ok here is another method to access hidden .obsidian and plugin folders / directories in your vault on iPhone and iPad using iSH Shell app. It is very lightweight at only 6mb in size compared to the other options I mentioned in Discord (LibTerm and a-shell)!! Thanks again @Mara-Li for the ideas and help!

My "My secret folder" app disappeared along with the files in it. The app was removed from AppStore so i couldnt download it again. I tried to recover from iCloud, and when the recovery began the "My secret folder" icon apppeared but when the recovery was finalized it was gone once again?!?

I just made the switch from iPhone to a Pixel 5 today and am super happy so far but I'm looking for a way to hide my, um, risk photos ifyoicatchmymeaning. My iPhone had a hidden folder so I just moved everything there but it doesn't look like I have that option. Am I just going to have to use an app? Is there one that is better? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Depending on your configuration, these settings could affect the permissions of subfolders and secrets contained in this folder. Folders are not visible to users that do not have at least View permission. This allows users to create and manage their own folders without making them visible to all users.

In Secret Server, a personal folder is a folder that one (and only one) individual has owner access to. No user can modify sharing permissions on these folders. User's can add subfolders to their personal folder. The purpose of this folder is to allow a user to securely store work-related secrets that other users do not require access to. Note that when in break-the-glass mode, an unlimited admin can access a user's personal folder in order to recover secrets if needed.

I recently had to restore my Mac from Time Machine, and for some reason after doing this, the main dropbox folder (with desktop, documents, downloads, etc) is now hidden in finder. This is also keeping me from turning on Backup, because dropbox can't actually find the folders.

The folder is still visible in the dropbox application, and as far as I can tell, I can still access all of my files from the finder sidebar, but I would like to fix this in order to be able to have backups of everything. I'm also not sure if the folder being hidden will cause some kind of file mess-up down the line, so I'd like to get it straightened out before anything happens.

I am using two different computers to link files between them (a desktop at work and my personal laptop), but each one only shows up once in that list. But notably, the "My Mac" folder on my work desktop is visible, so you may be right that it had something to do with Time Machine.

I was also able to restore the backup capability of the downloads and desktop folders. To do this I went to their pinned locations on the sidebar of Finder and chose "show parent folder". This led me to their dropbox location. From there I copied the entire folder back to it's location on my hard drive, and this allowed me to back up these two folders. It seems dropbox was looking back to that location to try and back up? The original backup error message was something like "the folder isn't in its original location".

I haven't done the same with my documents folder, because I probably have 700-1000gb of data, and not all of it is stored locally (and can't be since my hard drive isn't big enough). Anyway, I don't want to risk anything because my files are pretty sensitive.

The solution from Dropbox's end was essentially "we can see the Documents folder syncing on our end, so it should be fine", even though I still can't add the folder to my backups (see photo below). But I am able to access everything from the web and do rewinds from there, so it does seem like it is syncing and backing up.

Now assuming you get a return of /home/.virtualenv from option 2(again assuming it was actually a hidden folder), then we need to move it to the proper place which aught to be in /home/$USERNAME or /home/daniel in your case.

Now you access hidden folders from the terminal like any other, except you have to add the . character before the name. Now in your case the fault is that you did not add the exact location of the virtualenvs folder.

The Secure Folder is the perfect place to store all the photos, videos, files, apps and data that you want to keep private. The folder is protected by the defence-grade Samsung Knox security platform, which encrypts all data stored there, making sure that your information is kept safe from any malicious attacks. You can also add a passcode or biometric lock to keep your data safe from any prying eyes.

When you move an app you already have installed on your phone into the secure folder, a copy of the app is created. You will be able to log in to the copy of the app in the Secure Folder using a different account to the original version. If you wish to have the app only in the secure folder, you will need to uninstall the version of the app on your apps screen.

I am wondering whether it would be possible to use Rclone to mount "hidden" app folders created by other developers on Google Drive? Have others done this, and is there step by step documentation available?

I think my question wasn't very clear. I don't want to mount an app data folder of my own, from scratch. I want to connect to a third-party, hidden app data folder that normally you don't get access to through Google Drive. This means I'd have to somehow track down the appropriate client ID/secret pair, and mount that with Rclone...if that's even possible. I don't think the documentation covers this specific case.

Again, this is what I would expect, since I think this will have basically created an empty, hidden folder that I can upload to, which no other apps can access. But this is basically the opposite of what I want. I want to access those other, hidden app folders created by other developers.

My objective is to access the hidden app folder that Are Backup uses. I can dump whatever content I want into the Rclone app folder, with the client ID/secret pair I created when setting up my Google Cloud project, but it looks like this data is totally isolated from all other data in my Google Drive.

I want to use the hidden app data folder with Arq so that the data doesn't show up in ay other client. But in an emergency, I want to be able to get raw access to that data. Figured I could use Rclone for this, but it seems I'd have to get the appropriate client ID/secret pair somehow.

Thanks! Yeah...this is way over my head. I consider myself to be a decently knowledgeable computer user, but Rclone is definitely tricky enough to learn without having to figure out how to grab some client ID/secret pair that is probably hardcoded into the Arq app (it isn't in the keychain).

Not sure what you're on about? You can easily delete your hidden app data by navigating to Google Drive on the web, select "storage" in the tree view, navigate to settings, and choose "manage app folders" or something like that and delete the Arq data. I am not asking how to bypass security here. There is no security issue.

Arq actually gives you the choice of whether to use the hidden app folder or not. It's a matter of ticking a box in the GUI. You can choose to store your Arq data along with the rest of your "My Drive" data, in which case you can easily access the raw data. The reason I have chosen not to do this is because the Google Drive for Desktop app doesn't (yet?) support selective sync, so there's no way I could exclude the Arq data folder from being re-downloaded to my computer unless I choose to use the hidden app folder.

MySecretFolder is a Windows utility that lets you make a "secret" folder, where you can put files and documents that you want to be hidden from other users and protected with a password of your choice. The first thing to do is to download the installation file, save it to your hard drive, and then run it to install MySecretFolder on your computer. (Note that you can install it even if you have not purchased it yet: it comes with a free 30-day license that you can use to give it a try before purchasing the full license.)

By default, it suggests you to choose a folder named MySecretFolder that would be created inside of the My Documents folder, which should probably work for most people. However, if you want a different folder to be secret, you can select it by pressing the Browse button. Almost any folder can be secret, unless it's a removable or a network drive, or is one of the system folders used by Windows. (If you choose a folder that's not suitable for protection, MySecretFolder software will warn you against protecting it.)

After selecting the folder to be secret, you can press the Open the folder button to open the folder in a window (while it's still unprotected) and copy or move the files you want to be secret into it. You can create subfolders inside of that folder, too, to better organize your private files, if you have a lot of them. The secret folder can have an unlimited unlimited number of files and subfolders, all of them will be protected just as well as the secret folder itself. You can also move and copy files in and out of the secret folder later on, too.

When you press the Finish button, the protection becomes effective and your secret folder becomes invisible: you will not appear in the file listings when you browse the computer with Windows Explorer, or use other Windows applications or the command-line tools. If someone else happen to login to Windows instead of you, they won't be able to see or open the secret folder (unless they use the special forensic investigation or similar low-level tools to examine the contents of your hard disk directly.) e24fc04721
