On the other, they terrorize, arrest,jail, deport and kill a great number of Vietnamese revolutionaries. Ifthe French imperialists think that they can suppress the Vietnameserevolution by means of terror, they are grossly mistaken. For one thing,the Vietnamese revolution is not isolated but enjoys the assistance ofthe world proletariat in general and that of the French working class inparticular. Secondly, it is precisely at the very time when the Frenchimperialists are frenziedly carrying out terrorist acts that theVietnamese Communists, formerly working separately, have united into asingle party, the Indochinese Communist Party, to lead the revolutionarystruggle of our entire people.

This paper 0) is based on an initial examination of the unpublished correspondence of the four sisters of Raden Ajeng Kartini written to Mevrouw Rosa Abendanon-Mandri between the time of Kartini's death and the death of Jacques Abendanon in 1925. (2) Together with the copious extant writing of Kartini herself from the period 1899 and 1904, this corpus of correspondence produced by a family of Javanese priyayi women at the beginning of the twentieth century provides a unique body of private writing produced during a period of major social change in Java. While limited in their explicit reference to contemporary events, the previously largely neglected correspondence is noteworthy, apart from its intrinsic interest in extending our knowledge of Kartini's family, for the light it sheds on the nature of the emerging culture of modernity in Indonesia in the first decades of the century and in particular on the role of women within it.

The unpublished correspondence, constrained as it is by the particular relationship upon which it is based, focuses on the self-conscious attempt by the sisters of Kartini to enact ideas about women's education and, more broadly, the role of women in the modernisation of Javanese society to which

For me, this hall is filled not only by the leaders of the nations of Asia and Africa; it also contains within its walls the undying, the indomitable, the invincible spirit of those who went before us. Their struggle and sacrifice paved the way for this meeting of the highest representatives of independent and sovereign nations from two of the biggest continents of the globe.

In the end, be it called the Lyric Age, the Age of Colonization, the Age of Tyrants, the Age of Lawgivers or simply the Pre-Classical Age, these three centuries of Greek civilization (800-500 BCE) are by any name one of the great revolutionary periods in human history. Were it not followed by an age even more magnificent (i.e. the Classical Age), this could easily be deemed a golden age. If nothing else, all the titles of this epoch point up the centrality of these centuries as a pivotal and formative moment in not only Greek history but all of Western Civilization. And so it will come as little surprise that this was the time and place, the laboratory if you will, where Greek drama was created.

To coincide with the Indonesian national holiday, Kartini Day, on 21 April 2021, two edited volumes, one of her writings and another containing letters she exchanged with her sisters, have been made available for digital open access. Both are edited and translated by the leading scholar of her work, Joost Cot.

To prevent the catastrophe of war, the international working class, the great revolutionary force in society, must unite in a common struggle to end the capitalist profit system and nation-state divisions. This is the urgent strategic task. Workers in Australia, China, Japan, and across the Indo-Pacific region, must be unified with their counterparts in the United States, Europe and around the world into an international anti-war movement, consciously fighting for the establishment of world socialism. In the struggle for that perspective, the SEP in Australia has great responsibilities. The party must expand its influence across the entire country, and give all assistance possible to the historic work of the Socialist Equality Group in New Zealand, which is preparing the founding of the first new section of the ICFI in the Asia-Pacific since the establishment of the Australian section in 1972. The SEP, in the closest collaboration with the ICFI, will reach out to and work with individuals and groups in the South Pacific states and East Timor; in Indonesia, the Philippines and across South East Asia; in Korea, Japan and China, who, on the basis of the principles elaborated in the IC statement, recognise the necessity for building the world party of socialist revolution.
