I am a Brit living in Germany, BBC Radio is my lifeline to my home country. I just acquired a HomePod mini with the intention of installing it in the kitchen so I could listen to the best of British radio while preparing dinner. I was seriously disappointed to discover that BBC Radio is not available directly on HomePod. What is really strange is that all the major BBC Radio stations are available on Apple Music on my iOS devices, and on Apple Music on my Mac mini running Big Sur and my Mojave iMac running iTunes, and they are all provided by TuneIn. Supposedly the reason that BBC Radio is no longer available on HomePod directly is that the BBC requested data from TuneIn which TuneIn was not willing to provide, but apparently that is not an issue for the iOS and macOS apps. So what is going on?

The BBC make their own BBC Sounds and iPlayer apps through which they control and monitor access to their content. Like you I am frustrated not to be able to get BBC radio directly on HomePod, but unless the BBC want to support it you'll have to resort to AirPlay from another device.

When I was researching to see if Apple and the BBC had resolved the issue I had come across this Siri shortcut fix on YouTube. Let me know if it works and also if you are able to stop the radio station once you have finished with your voice.

This is the main reason I've just bought two Sonos smart speakers - they do BBC radio natively, support Alexa and Google assistant - and allow Spotify as default music player. They sound almost as my two Homepods - about to go on eBay. As someone heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem I'm really annoyed with Apple for effectively forcing me down this route.

BBC Radio 1 is a flagship radio station of the BBC (together with BBC Radio 2 ) that broadcasts from London. This station broadcasts to FM, DAB and TV and plays modern popular music, current chart hits during the day and alternative genres, including electronica, dance, hip hop, rock and indie after 7pm.

This station was born in 1967 when there was a demand for music generated by pirate radio stations and when the average age of the UK population was 27. BBC Radio 1 targets people aged from 15 to 29, although since 2009 the average age of its audience in the UK is 30.

Compared to adults more generally, younger people were also more likely to shun traditional news sources such as TV (47% vs 70% or 75% when on-demand services are included), radio (25% vs 40%) and print newspapers (16% vs 26%).

Despite the growth of other sources, the BBC remains the most popular news organisation, with its output across TV, radio, online, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds reaching 73% of people in the UK over 16.

This article explains how all Reciva Internet radios had to be binned in 2021, when their aggregation platform (Qualcomm) shut down. It could happen again where the hardware manufacturers and the distribution platforms, are two separate operations.

Apart from total shut sown, there have also been occasions where one change by one of the many parties separately involved in providing streaming radio services, has caused difficulties for the end user - that sometimes took a while to identify and resolve.

Apple Music 1, previously branded as Beats 1, is a 24/7 music radio station owned and operated by Apple Inc. It is accessible through iTunes or the Apple Music app on a computer, smartphone or tablet, smart speaker (such as the Apple HomePod), and through the Apple Music web browser app.

On August 18, 2020, Apple announced the rebranding of Beats 1 to Apple Music 1 and the launch of two new radio stations, Apple Music Hits and Apple Music Country, featuring exclusive original shows from the world's top music hosts and artists.[4]

Kirk McElhearn wrote, "Beats 1 radio is clearly a loss-leader. Apple has designed it to draw people into Apple Music and get them interested. But the station is designed for just one demographic: the young, pop/rock/hip-hop listener. As such, it's a non starter for a lot of Apple Music customers, and that's a shame."[23]

The BBC has discontinued its use of the service, SHOUTcast. SHOUTcast relays radio over the internet to SHOUTcast supported devices like connected radio devices. This includes some internet radio sets like Pure Evoke Flow.

Can you please detail exactly what voice command you are giving to your device and it's exact response. Try and be more specific with your request, and alter how you ask to listen to the station. Try using the frequency, location, or common radio call sign. All these steps may allow for a more accurate connection.

I am constantly getting a "sorry, cannot do that" response from my Google Home wifi when asking it to play music from a local radio station or even any other media. I have tried resetting and still get the proble,

I've found that my local radio station was through a service called Tunein. Tunein was not working for any radio station it plays. I tried something from another service, like Iheart80s from Iheart and it worked. Today, Tunein appears to be working again. If not, try something like Iheart80s to see if it is Tunein or the mini in general.

Then find your radio station and start it playing. After a TuneIn-inserted ad plays you should see the Chromecast icon appear along the lower part of the screen. Touch that and select your speaker(s). Bingo!

Hey there,

Lately I have had to give commands to my google home mini more than once in order to have it complete the task requested (usually just music playback). We get the "hmmm something went wrong" message almost 90% of the time.

Then this morning I try to play my favorite radio station and now it says that it can't find it.

All TS steps say reboot your device or relocate it. Did all of that and the issue still persists.

Google, please figure it out. Worked great for a long time but the last few months have made me want to throw this device in the garbage and switch to Echo.

I started having the same issues last night. After a year and a half of perfection, My mini advised that the radio station requested could not be found or was temporarily unavailable. Same response to any requested radio station on both my Mini and Home unit. How do I I do a Factory reset

For a temporary solution, I recommend casting your radio to your Google Home/Nest device from an app on another device. When casting, please ensure that both of your devices are on the same WiFi network. 2351a5e196
