The Darby Family Screening Room showcases Dylan-related scripted films, documentaries and concert performances, including never-before-seen material unearthed from the archive. The room also serves as a space for special events where visiting filmmakers can screen and discuss their work.

In 2011, the George Kaiser Family purchased the Woody Guthrie Archives from the Woody Guthrie Foundation in Mount Kisco, New York. Under the supervision of managing archivist Tiffany Colannino, the archives and several gifted collections were transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2013. Colannino also consulted on the original design of the research room and vault at Woody Guthrie Center, which includes a climate- and security-controlled archival storage safe equipped with baked enamel compact shelving, stainless steel work surfaces, nitrogen fire-suppression system, and archival office.

Since their transfer to Tulsa, the archives and collections have grown expansively and now include the papers and family collections of Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, and Maxine Crissman (aka Lefty Lou); the research collection of music historian Ronald D. Cohen; and several other collections of primary and secondary research materials.

In May 2012, the band confirmed via the website that the album, titled With Us Until You're Dead, would be released on 27 August from their own label Dangervisit Records. It was accompanied by a European tour starting in October, to which a London show was promptly added. Fusing orchestral, electronic, soulful, progressive and emotional elements, Keeler describes the new material in comparison to previous works as "more personal - love songs basically. But coming at the subject matter in that non-formatted Archive way." Fans heard a new song, Violently, featuring new vocalist Holly Martin, which was released as part of the Wiped Out / Violently EP on 2 July.

To celebrate their 25 years of activity, in May 2019 the band released a massive retrospective collection called "25". The standard edition features 26 tracks drawn from the band's career, including new and previously unreleased songs - including collaborations with Band of Skulls and Steve Mason. The 4 CD deluxe edition contains 42 tracks.

The songs as recorded for radio play, it turned out, were often less compelling than the solo demos recorded as the templates, with Pete alone on guitar, his ringing voice clear as brass above the crafty chord progressions that complimented the soaring melodies. The Ruth Rubin Legacy highlights the renowned vocalist and scholar's collection of over 2,000 Yiddish songs performed by some of the most extraordinary traditional singers of the 20th century, including Rubin herself. The 78rpm acetate discs, reel-to-reel tapes and cassettes recorded by Rubin between 1946 and the 1970s are in the process of being painstakingly re-assembled and are made truly accessible here for the first time. Ruth Rubin's entire life's work can be found on this site: field recordings, lectures, concerts, radio interviews, videos, manuscripts and published materials.

The Archive has developed important collections from Asia and the Middle East. It holds diverse archival material, such as wide-ranging Chinese songs acquired by Harvard Professor Emeritus Rulan Pian; extensive field recordings made by Martha Forsyth in 1980s of traditional Bulgarian songs; field recordings of Tvisngur (male polyphony in Iceland); and !Kung field recordings. Numerous recordings of Indonesian music have also been acquired, primarily on commercial sound cassettes.

The Archive includes songs performed by some of the most extraordinary traditional singers of Yiddish folk songs of the 20th century, including Rubin herself and the likes of Shmerke Kaczerginski, Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman, Nathan Ausubel, Wolf Younin, Dora Wasserman, Teddi Schwartz, Felix Fibich, Michael Fox, David Ellin, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Mina Bern.

The Ruth Rubin archive opens up the vast treasure house of Yiddish folk song not in the language of revivalists, but in the plain and powerful voice of the people of the day when Yiddish was a natural tongue of expression, sentiment, memory, and belonging.

To officially launch its new online archive the YIVO Institute will host an evening of celebration at 7pm on December 23, 2018 at the Center for Jewish History. The evening will consist of a number of performances by renowned musicians including: Michael Alpert (Scotland/USA), Itzik Gottesman (NY), Daniel Kahn (Berlin/USA), Sasha Lurje (Riga/Berlin), Ethel Raim (NY), Lorin Sklamberg (NY) and many more and will be a celebration of the life work and contribution of Rubin.

The Baring-Gould folk song collection appears as part of The Full English thanks to Wren Music who donated the entire digitised and catalogued collection to EFDSS as part of the Devon Tradition project.

I have taken on this project because I believe that these songs offer window into the world of refugees. What was their repertoire, what did they choose to present and how did they frame it? We hear, in these hours of recording, a bygone world of the survivor subculture.

Literature on the importance of songs makes it clear that music was a form of spiritual resistance. Survivors busied themselves, during and after the war, in composing songs and later collecting and compiling them. The individuals engaged in this activity performed an important social function. The composers, singers and collectors were lauded and valued by their fellow sufferers and have since become icons in the ever-shrinking world of Yiddish lovers.

Below is a categorization of the songs that are transcribed. Of the over a thousand songs Stonehill collected, I have only tracked a goodly portion so more remains to be done from the nine reels and 39 hours he collected. I hope I have made a good dent.

Categorization proved tricky. Some are clearly love songs, some fall neatly into religious traditions. But the bulk of the songs are clearly responses to what had just happened to them and to their whole destroyed world. I have grouped songs roughly by theme, sometimes cross-listing them. Stonehill created a handwritten list of the first lines of the 1052 in the order in which they were gathered. Some songs are sung more than once by different singers, with some variation, reflecting a folk process.

The titles of the tracks mp3s, list the songs by a shortened version of these first lines most of the time, and changed to standard orthography, that is, unless the song is well-known by title. Stonehill asked the singers to write the first lines of the songs on little slips of paper, which they brought in and from which is list derives.

I here list songs roughly by theme, identifying only the ones transcribed and translated. Some songs lend themselves to more than one category. While many of the songs deal directly with the experiences of the camps, ghettos or partisan life many more reflect the singers responses to the war in indirect ways. Thus, songs from before the war that philosophize about old age, or deal with loss of loved ones or home provide an emotional release for the great loss almost all the survivors felt.

In total, I found about 100 indexed testimonies that contained references to music, about 35 of which contained actual songs. Half of these were in Turkish, and most were sung at the time the genocide was taking place. ff782bc1db
