Not using a USB stick (for a start the iPad has no USB port and even if you use one of those double-ended USB-Lightning memory sticks you can't move the iPad's music library onto them). To do what you want you need to subscribe to Apple Music and use the iCloud Music Library, or subscribe to iTunes Match. That way you have all your music in the cloud and can stream it to any iOS/OS X device from there, or download any subset of it to any device as required.

I just want to store MY iTunes library on a usb memory stick, by copying from my iPad. Then delete from iPad to enable more space for other things like apps etc. This is obviously not something Apple want you to be able to do, so I rest my case.

It was a 32gb usb stick, with lightning connector one end and standard usb the other. I wanted to copy music from Ipad to the stick, but it will only copy siles and photos. Have tried loads of apps, which say that they transfer, but they don't. Thanks

You cannot copy the music from the iPad to a USB stick. Syncing of music has always been one way from the computer iTunes Library to the iOS device. Do you not use a computer to maintain your iTunes library? Is this Apple purchased music or music from other sources? How did it get placed on the iPad in the first place? What are you using to back up this music?

I am guessing its the interface between the iPad and the memory card/camera. This is one of the main reasons I would never use an iPad for transfer etc. Taking photos on my phone, then using the iPad to retouch them is ok, as you get the same images on both. But going from camera to iPad is a different thing and a true computer is much more reliable for data transfer.

Agreed. It appears to be a transfer error. I've had similar experiences transferring to ipad/iphone. It depends on the quality of the device you're using to transfer. If I use the official apple USB camera kit adapter and plug it straight into my camera it works fine. If I use a third party sd card reader it can get a bit flaky and takes several attempts to transfer everything, especially if I'm doing it on my lap.

I find it more reliable if I temporarily set the ipad to never go to sleep (or lightroom has a setting to prevent sleep during transfers if you use that), put the ipad and transfer device on a flat table, set it going and leave it alone.

Thank you P&SP & Greg. Image transfer is via a memory card reader rather than directly from the camera, using an Apple SD card reader to USB-C. As mentioned, this is partially for backup in the unlikely event of something going wrong with the memory card, and it also allows me to review photos on a day-to-day basis.

I guess that things not working correctly is part of life The problem occurred with two memory card which function perfectly when transferring images to my PC so I think it must be the reader. If it doesn't get any worse I can live with it

You can easily connect a flash drive, SD card, thumb drive, camera, USB drive, USB stick, memory stick, photo stick, and other kind of external storage with your iPad. Once done, you can move files between the external drive and your local iPad storage (or iCloud Drive).

I am new to Zwift and I just bought a Garmin USB ANT stick as well as an official USB adapter to my iPad. I thought I just had to plug everything in and start pedaling but when Zwift tells me to start pedal so it can notice my sensors it does not do this.

Has anybody tried VLC playback of an MKV or MP4 file in an external USB flash drive (with the new iPadOS)? If playback worked, can you please share how you enabled it? NOTE: I am not talking about copying the file to the internal memory of an iPad, and doing the playback.

Once ubiquitous, USB flash drives have declined in popularity with the advent of the cloud, but these portable devices have a lot to offer. Also known as thumb drives or memory sticks, flash drives provide storage to back up precious photos, play movies on the big screen, or copy files from one phone or laptop to another. They are affordable, small enough to fit on a keychain, and boast ever-increasing capacities and data transfer speeds.

Hi I have always used my camera with memory stick pro cards. My son now wants to put some of the photos on his iPad. He has a connection that will take a usb but the iPad is not reading it although he has a camera with a sd card and it works. Is there anything we can get to transfer the images. Thanks

When buying a USB flash drive, it is crucial to focus on storage and read/write speeds. You should consider getting a USB drive with at least 64GB if you intend to carry around a large number of files, videos, or songs. These are great USB-C sticks for iPad and Mac that can make your life easier.

It is common for Apple users to use iPads to take photos or store items from other sources. This makes pictures big occupiers of an iPad. Sometimes, to speed up iOS on your iPad, you may need to upgrade the system, reset the device to factory settings, delete its content, etc. So, before that, you would probably like to transfer photos to another independent memory like a USB flash drive.

So I just want to know how I can easily do this without internet connection. Surely this should be possible using a flash memory drive? I see they can be purchased online with a USB connection for pc and lightning connection for iPad. I have since posting thus found one which will get files into iPad Pro but not back again.

I tried a 3rd party lightning to USB/SD adapter with no luck, It wouldn't power the USB stick and didn't see the SD card. I returned it and got an Apple brand USB adapter and it handles the SD card well.

I have an iPad retina and would like to load data from a MS Duo memory card (the proprietary format for Sony digital cameras). What are my options?

Unfortunately, using the USB port of the digital camera is not an option as my camera does not have one.

EDIT

According to several forums, using a USB memory card reader with the camera connection kit used to work, but recent CCKs apparently do not supply the necessary power for USB memory card readers anymore, so a normal reader might not work.

Many Apple users have replaced their beloved MacBooks with one of the best iPads so intermediary memory devices like a flash drive are becoming more important than ever. The problem is that not every flash drive or memory disk has a lightning connector, so that's why we've picked out the best flash drives that do.

Efficient and affordable, this memory stick offers 128GB of storage space which should suffice for many purposes. It comes in several color options and includes both a Lightning socket and USB port, so you can go between the two with a simple flick of the switch.

For this with both Apple and Android or PC devices, this adaptable memory drive has both USB-C and USB-A connectors. It also has Lightning and micro-USB adapters to ensure it works well across multiple types of device. You're unlucky to find a device it won't work with.

Compatible with any device that uses USB-A, USB-C, Lightning, or micro-USB, this stick from iDiskk is great for versatility. It's essentially a mini-dongle stick that's easy to switch between what you need.

SanDisk is a reliable brand in the memory world. This particular SanDisk flash drive is designed to transfer your files effortlessly so you can quickly free up space on your iPhone. It automatically backs up all photos and videos, as well as streams videos on the go.

SanDisk continues its reign as a great memory drive company with this mini edition. Our reviewer was particularly impressed with how the SanDisk iXpand will password-protect files, keeping them protected if the drive is lost or stolen. It also has a neat folding design that's streamlined and convenient for storage.

Lack of camera and any peripheral options.

The iPad has no camera. Which means you can't take any pictures or use its internet connection to talk on Skype. It also has none of the normal connection ports you would find on your laptop or desktop computer. Which means you'll never be able to upload photos or documents from your flash memory stick to the iPad. 2351a5e196
