I actually have a librecalc spreadsheet (it's an equivalent to Microsoft Excel) with all of the winning numbers from the first drawing of Mega Millions on September 6, 1996. I have it set up in such a way that I can easily update it by copying and pasting the information from the past results tab on the usamega website. It translates the date into a numeric date format and places that numeric date in a separate column and it separates each number and the mega number into it's own separate columns. This makes it so I can sort the data by date, mega number, or in number order, or prioritize the criteria in any which way I want.

I've also created a separate page on the spreadsheet that counts how many times each number 1 through 75 (yes I know 71 through 75 are not currently in play, but since they are part of the data I've included it, and all of the mega numbers 1 through 52 has hit since the beginning of the game.

I'm working on other separate pages that will count how many times each 2 and 3 number combination has hit and how many times each mega +1, mega +2, and mega +3 has hit. What I have been able to decipher from the data so far... is that no 4 number combination has ever been repeated which of course also means no 5 number combination has ever been repeated. Of course, that may mean nothing since the game has been changed a few times over the years.

Incidentally, the 5 most picked numbers are: 2, 4, 17, 31, and 46 and the most picked mega number is 3.

31 is the highest picked number. It's pulled up 219 times.

Then 2 at 217 times.

I was wondering how can I use excel to pick numbers that are frequently being played in excel? I have put all of the passed drawings already in a spreadsheet and I have included rows such as Median, Mode, Range etc...... Can anyone tell me what to do next?

I remember a thread where the late kbcherokee was explaining the "bell curve" with regards to mega millions picks. I had spent several years toying with median/mode/average/forecast and backtesting (checking against past results) was never impressive.

I work with the powerball and I am trying to update/refine the "bell curve", if you send me your mega history I will put those numbers into my powerball excel sheet and send it back to you and maybe we could work on it, it probably needs a fresh set of eyes at this point... stats don't seem to be enough.

Welcome back Kristin. I usually pick my own numbers in my MM and PB predictions based upon the hot/cold numbers and overdue numbers. In MM, I usually look at my document for their history in seeing which numbers haven't been the winning numbers of both WB and MB to see which numbers are left. Then in my MM predictions, I usually pick those numbers.
