You can also delete music in the Settings app. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage or iPad Storage. Scroll to Music and tap it. Swipe left on All Songs or on the item that you want to delete, then tap Delete.

I usually add new albums to my Library and listen to them when I get the time (sort of like a YouTube Watch Later playlist)... I may like 2 or 3 songs from the said album, which I will then add to a Playlist. When I'm finished with the album, I delete it from the Library, but the 2/3 songs I added to the Playlist also disappear - it's a very strange feature.

Apple Music Delete From Library Vs Remove Download

My Apple Music library is too big. I want to weed it out by removing a whole load of tracks that I have never listened to. I already did the same thing successfully with playlists but my script isn't working to remove tracks:

When I made a playlist with songs in my library and songs from the Apple Music streaming platform, the application took the songs out of my library (and from their folders in the Finder level) and replaced them with ones from Apple Music streaming. I have since removed said songs from the playlist and manually added them back in my library but the application with continue to remove them upon each launch. Its kinda wild

Thanks for the reply. I guess I don't get why Music is "moving" songs from the whole album to a playlist and not "copying" them. For example, I made a "Best of 2020" playlist which featured about 25 random songs off Apple Music streaming. When I then bought and ripped the CDs that featured said songs after, Music would just remove them from my Library. It continues to do this despite me dragging and dropping them back in from the Finder level. It does it on my computer as well as iPhone. Ive since deleted said playlist but still does it ever time.

This sounds like it could be related to the preferences within the Music app on your device. For a Mac, go to the Music app > Music menu > Preferences, then select on the Files tab and you should see two options, 'Keep Music Media folder organized' and 'Copy files to Music Media folder when adding to library': Create, edit, and delete playlists in Music on Mac Also, make sure the Music Media folder location is set correctly for where you'd like to store that music library.

I stream songs via Apple Music subscription and then make a normal playlist with all songs still being via Apple Music subscription. Later I'll buy and rip the albums I really like to my local drive. Both said boxes in Preferences you referenced are checked. And then it appears said songs there were in the playlist only show up in the playlist and leave the personal library view, yet they still exist at the Finder level. This happened with two different playlists that I ultimately had to delete cuz it wasn't worth the hassle. I deleted them and reimported the albums that were giving me issues. So far so good but in doing so lost all the play counts and original date added metadata. Not a big deal but annoying.

Hi I have various issues with Apple Music (splitting albums and randomly changing the album artist on some albums); so, yesterday I spent a few hours going through my library on my phone, deleting problem albums and re downloading them from Apple Music. This seems to fix the problem at least temporarily. I also took the opportunity to delete a load of stuff I no longer listen to.

Having got my library fixed on my iPhone, about 24 hours later I opened up my MacBook Air expecting the changes to sync. The Mac downloaded all the new stuff, but didn't delete any of the things I'd deleted. So now my Mac library has lots of duplicated albums, and a load of stuff I no longer want.

As the library on my phone is "correct" I don't want to risk doing anything to sync bad data back up to the cloud. I would like to completely wipe the library from my Mac, start again with a fresh library and then download the "correct" data from the cloud. I am unable to do this. I've tried:

Please help me to get rid of the corrupt data on my Mac and download a good copy from the cloud. Is there some kind of cache in the library folder I can delete? I've located some files but don't know what they do. Apple Music has got to be apple's worst product. It's been terrible at syncing since the early days of iTunes Match. :(

However deleting content from an iOS device typically causes it to become remove in the iTunes/Music library. See Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support. Turn on the iCloud Status columns in the Songs view, sort on status, then select and remove anything that is marked as Removed. That should be a more efficient approach, and maintains your originals in case any might be mismatched.

One further tip for really stubborn duplicates. At one point I had three lots of Various Artists in the artists view of my library that wouldn't respond to the usual trailing X treatment. What I found worked was to add the trailing X to start with, but then with each group that the application wanted to keep separate start typing a value and use the autocomplete from say Var... to Various Artists. Picking from the autocomplete lists seemed to work when pasting/editing the whole value didn't.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. The library has updated on the Mac already. The problem is that it did not update correctly. It downloaded the new stuff, but didn't delete the deleted items. I am looking for a way of wiping the library from the Mac and downloading a "good" copy from the cloud.

If you have songs in My Music that you want to move to a playlist and remove from iCloud Music Library, you first need to delete the song from your library, which will remove it from all playlists. Then, add the song back from the Apple Music catalog and add it just to a playlist.

The question asked (and I have the same question) was how to *remove* songs from my music library without also deleting them from all playlists -- which is what happens when one selects "delete from Library". Is there a way?

I was deleting songs from my library to save space and when I tapped delete, it gave me the option to either "Delete from My Music" or "Remove Download". What do they do? I do not use iTunes Match and I am not a member of Apple Music.

Apple Music is a music streaming service with 100 million songs and thousands of playlists in its catalog. You can listen to songs online without adding them to your library or downloading it for offline listening, as long as you have an Apple Music subscription.

Once you have added a song to your library, you have the option to download it. After downloading, you can listen to this track even without Wi-Fi or cellular data, as the music is saved locally on your device.

Besides the above steps, you can also tap & hold over the Music app icon from the Home Screen and pick Remove App > Delete App > Delete. This will uninstall the Music app from your iPhone or iPad, and with that, it will also delete all the downloaded music files. You can reinstall the Apple Music app at any time from the App Store by searching for it or using this link.

the good news: they do. you can delete albums, though it does it in a weird way, by deleting all the songs from the album one after another by sending a DELETE command to /v1/library/. this doesn't work very well as half the time that endpoint 404's for all the requests and even if it doesn't, the album doesn't disappear. beta software i guess. but none of that matters because of ...

If you're new to iPhone, or have never needed to delete music from your iPhone before, it may not be immediately apparent how to delete songs or albums from your device. Do not fear, though! In this article, we'll guide you through 4 easy ways in which you can remove music from your iPhone.

Before deleting music from your device, or syncing your iTunes library with your iPhone, we highly recommend backing the device up using iTunes or a third-party software. You can create a backup of your iPhone by connecting it to iTunes > click your device icon > click Back up Now.

Unfortunately, the iPhone currently provides no way to find which of your tracks are duplicated, so the use of a computer is necessary. We will firstly remove any duplicate songs from iTunes (or Apple Music), then sync your cleaned library with your iPhone, ensuring that your iPhone's library is the same as your iTunes library.

If you have a little extra time and patience to find and remove your iPhone duplicates, you can use iTunes' inbuilt functionality. iTunes does a great job of listing the duplicate music in your library, however, it does not provide any help in deciding which files to remove, which Tune Sweeper can intuitively and automatically do.

Remove Download will remove the song from your iPhone, but it will still be in your Apple Music library. The song will essentially no longer be available for offline listening but remains part of your music collection.

Following #1 and #2, the song is removed from your downloaded music. You can not listen to it offline now. However, the track itself still stays added to your Apple Music Library. Anytime you wish to download it again, tap on the download icon. 17dc91bb1f
