Seems to be most often. I recommend to follow official documentation. If you finish all steps, issue persists and you're still unsure whether it could be the reason, clone official android samples, find the MapWithMarker sample (android-samples/tutorials/MapWithMarker) and test against it. If you run the sample and it shows the map correctly, try to exchange default API KEY for the one you own.

I had faced the same problem, Please cross-check with the following.There are two files for debug and release separately for google map API key.Please check for production release you must have entry google_maps_api.xml file under release folder. I solved this issue by adding my key in both files.

I would like to report a bug. When listening to pandora and using Google maps in Android there is a problem with volume. When Google maps is diving an audible direction it is supposed to lower the music volume until the instruction is finished. This works unless the instruction is at the same time as a switch to a new song. Depending on the exact timing either two things can happen. The most common is for the music volume to remain low even after the direction instruction us over. It goes back to normal when the next instruction happens.
