A couple of issues here. For Helix updates you must have the update 2.280 on any G2, G3, G4 graph if the graph is < 2.280 when purchased, this is mandatory prior to updating the current update 2.800. When you update to 2.280 it deletes the basemap which you must update if you plan to use the new Lakemaster VX chips. The 2.280 update is on the website for each graph along with the basemap update for each graph. There is a basemap for the Helix 5-8 and a different basemap update for Helic 9-12. Make sure to encrypt your SD card prior to the update then download any of the updates to the card and it will know which update to apply to each graph. Be patient too. The update files are now much larger than in the past and it takes the graph a long time to recognize the new update 5- 8 minutes is common.

NOTE: The VX map card must be put into a Humminbird fish finder at least once before it can be updated. Plug your VX map card into your (powered up) HELIX, SOLIX, or APEX series fish finder. Wait one minute, then remove the card. This will ensure that the VX map card has an encrypt.txt file installed on it. This step is not necessary if you have previously viewed your map card in a Humminbird fish finder.

Within a major version release, the updates are free of charge. For example, updates to a v1.0 card are free until such a time as a v2.0 card is released which would only happen if major new fishing data or features are incorporated into the map.

Agree with Dutch. Could be the card is not formatted appropriately or your downloaded update is incomplete. You might try formatting the card and downloading the update again....card has to be in place when you power up the unit to boot.

Same card will do all your units. No need to go back to your computer after you have done the update download. They recommend taking out any other cards in other slots during a update tho. Map cards, waypoint cards, etc....
