I haven't played either of those classes so can't say for sure (I am assuming the hunter you mention is a ranger), but I have a feeling they wouldn't work that well together as one is range based while the other is melee based.

The dual wield mastery talent from the assassin tree is used by most rangers who play the DPS role in dungeons. For going solo where you are going to be the target of the enemies attacks, you will get better use out of using a shield. Shields will add quite a bit of armor and also give you a chance to block. I am not necessarily saying to put points in the Templar tree to increase the % of damage blocked or increase the % chance to block. Wearing a shield even without points in the Templar tree helps quite a bit (mostly due to the armor given).

So far I have seen only one mission where you get to bring the target back alive. Contract assassins are the ones that kill for money, no questions asked. Mako questions this herself on Nar Shaddaa, asking what the difference is between us and the assassin. Now if there was a light side/dark side choice as to whether or not we choose to kill the target, that would be something; but it is just kill, kill, kill.
