Hey everyone- I have been trying to update the firmware on my new 6300 switch for a while now. I am not new to how to do it from central and I could navigate the console as well, but when i try to update the firmware (current 10.04.3000- new 10.05.0021), a message comes back as "Unauthorized." I have tried stepping up to a lower version than recommended, and i get the same message. I have opened a case with HPE/Aruba, but the tech is unable to find an answer. Currently, my switch is behind my home network, and connected to the internet. I tried putting a static IP and DNS to make sure that wouldnt be an issue, but still, no joy, and I tried googling "Unauthorized," for the firmware, but I was unable to find anything. I have even looked on the Aruba community and found nothing. If y'all fine people have any suggestions, i would gladly take them. the tech even raised a case with HPE, and they just closed it for no reason or explanation 2 days later. I am at my wits end with why this device wont update. It currently has a foundation license, and the device is added to my dashboard. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: UPDATE- after much ado, HPE, and Aruba cases opened, the issue came down to going to Aruba's website and downloading the firmware ( ;products=Aruba%20Switches;productSeries=Aruba%206300%20Switch%20Series), and updating it on the local network; once that is done, you can proceed with firmware updates from Aruba Central as needed. Thank you fine folks for your input!

When I run Aruba firmware update check from within Instant OS, it shows nothing to update but when I bypass our filter it shows there is an update available. I have enabled aruba.brightcloud.com on our web filter but wondering what else do I have to whitelist to gain firmware updates without bypassing our filter please? Each time I click update I don't see any activity on the web filter to pinpoint where it's trying to go in order to whitelist it.

Thanks Colin, the link shows how to manually download the firmware which is good however my query is related to opening ports/whitelisting Aruba firmware direct update server URLs so that it automatically downloads the version when I click check for updates.

Is there an AP class that is not upgraded? Take one AP of a single class that is not upgraded, manually upgrade it to the correct firmware on another network and re-introduce it to the cluster. If you reboot the other APs in that class that have failed, they should get the firmware from that AP you reintroduced to the cluster... Did your tftp server say that any APs got the firmware?

Same as above, new to Aruba, and the common sense is not working on the portal. It is not intuitive to find release notes, latest software/firmware versions, etc. Just for the record we do have current support/maintanance agreement. The product is great but the website is just the opposite. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thank you.

I need AOS 6.4.1.0 for aruba 650 mobility controller device to connect it to aruba ap 205, i have 1 aruba 650 mobility controller and 8 aruba ap 205 units, please help to send ARUBA OS 6.4.1.0 file for both types of devices via email to bajaklangit@gmail.com because I failed to download through the web support aruba network, some time I tried to login or register in order to enter the download page but failed. thanks.

Followed what Robert said and was able to update the switch--Though for anyone finding this, there are several versions of firmware that recommend having a prior version. I went from (Example) 15.1 .x ->15.2.x -> 15.3.x ->15.3.x -> [...}15.9.x ->16.1.x ->16.2.x all the way up to the most recent version.

Yes. When HPE bought Aruba, the Procurve switches were rebranded as Aruba. There is no distinction in hardware. The Aruba firmware adds a bunch of auto-provisioning and cloud stuff (think Meraki) and improves the GUI. But you can easily turn it off.

Went through precisely this exercise a couple of months ago on the same hardware. Did the same as you, stepped through something like 8 to 10 firmwares. Had a lot of trepidation since I also couldn't figure out the branding and over the years, the HPE/Aruba website URLs took me down a twisty windy road.

So all the Cisco firmware is showing up fine, but the HP/Aruba firmware isn't showing up in the Firmware Repository. Guessing because the file extension (.swi instead of .bin)? Is there any setting I can change to get it to see the HP firmware as .swi files?

HP/Aruba are not currently supported under the firmware upgrade feature within NCM. You are welcome to create a Feature Request here, others can vote on it and it will be visible to myself and others in the product team.

Firmware is the software programmed on Instant On APs to make sure the devices run and provide functionality to users. The firmware installed on the Instant On APs is the Instant On software image. When the firmware is upgraded, device performance and functionality is improved through feature enhancements and bug fixes.

The status of the upgrade is displayed in the Software update page by means of a progress bar. The progress bar will be green if the firmware update was successful or yellow if some device(s) failed to install the firmware.

Instant On APs are automatically rebooted with the new version of the Instant On software image during a software upgrade. When an AP goes down during the reboot, the wireless clients connected to that AP are either moved to another AP in the Instant On site or completely dropped from the network. Though this scenario is expected, keep in mind that a firmware upgrade can cause major disruptions for the clients in your network. This is limited to the time-period that the APs take to reboot, which is 3-5 minutes. We recommend that you schedule this activity for when you don't expect users connected to the network actively.

I was successful in converting an AP-315 to IAP-315. Acquiring the firmware is the biggest challenge in 2023. I was able to stand up one network containing (2) IAP-207s and (1) IAP-315 on version 8.9.0.2_83074. I had to downgrade the two 207s from 8.10 as I was unable to find a firmware version 8.10 for the 315. Ping me if you need help w/ the firmware and have good standing on this community.

With AOS8, the update process changes slightly. It is possible to run different versions of code on controllers and the Mobility Master (VMM). This makes updating a lot easier because you do not have to plan for a long downtime, just for a firmware update.

When upgrading past a major software release, for example, from 10.6 to 10.8 (and skipping 10.7), issue the allow-unsafe-upgrades command to allow any low level firmware/driver upgrades to complete. If going from the 10.6 branch to 10.7 branch, this step can be skipped as the low level firmware/driver upgrade would be automatically completed.

This will trigger the upgrade process on the VSX pair and it will start the dialogue explaining what will happen next, i.e. if any firmware/driver upgrades are needed (i.e. the unit would reboot twice if this was the case) and it will show you on the screen the current status of the upgrade process. in VSX upgrade process the secondary VSX member will always boot first. 2351a5e196
