Chainsaw Man is an anime television series based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The series, produced by MAPPA, was announced on December 14, 2020.[1][2] It adapts the first 38 chapters of the manga series.[3] The series is directed by Ry Nakayama (director) and Makoto Nakazono (chief episode director), with scripts by Hiroshi Seko, character designs by Kazutaka Sugiyama, and Devil designs by Kiyotaka Oshiyama. Tatsuya Yoshihara is serving as action director and Ysuke Takeda is directing the art. Naomi Nakano is the color key artist and Yohei Miyahara is designing the screens. The music is composed by Kensuke Ushio.[4][5][6]

The series follows the story of Denji, an impoverished young man who makes a contract that fuses his body with that of a dog-like devil named Pochita, granting him the ability to transform parts of his body into chainsaws. Denji eventually joins the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a government agency focused on fighting against devils whenever they become a threat to Japan.

The series was broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks from October 12 to December 28, 2022.[7][8][9][a] The opening theme song is "Kick Back" by Kenshi Yonezu, while each episode features a different ending theme song.[11][12][b] Crunchyroll has licensed the series outside of Asia, and began streaming an English dub on October 25, 2022.[14][15] Medialink licensed the series in Asia-Pacific.[16]

When his father died, Denji was stuck with a huge debt and no way to pay it back. Thanks to a Devil dog he saved named Pochita, he's able to survive through odd jobs and killing Devils for the Yakuza. Pochita's chainsaw powers come in handy against these powerful demons. When the Yakuza betrays him and he's killed by the Zombie Devil, Pochita sacrifices himself to save his former master. Now Denji has been reborn as some kind of weird Devil-Human hybrid. He is now a Chainsaw Man!

Katana Man soon awakens, finding himself tied up with a chainsaw chain to the train. Denji adds that Katana Man is the same as him and when he pulled off his katana, he turned back to one piece. Denji says he needs to wait until the police come, but there is something he is upset about. He killed Himeno and because of that there is one less pretty girl in the world. However, he will live his life in prison without regret. Denji doesn't find that fair and Katana Man tells him he can't do anything about it as he is Public Safety's dog. Thinking a bit, Denji states he will be holding a tournament. Aki shows up, wondering what he means by tournament. Aki reports to the rest that Katana Man is under control and explains their location. Denji asks Aki if he wants to participate in his ultimate tournament. Denji explains that Katana Man shot Himeno, so they should give him nut shots. They will be taking turns hitting his balls and whoever gets the loudest scream out of him before the cops show up is the winner. Aki sighs, stating that their job is to capture him and not torture him to feel good, as that won't make Himeno happy. Aki takes out the cigarette he got from Ghost Devil and looks at it for a moment. He puts it back in his pocket and asks Denji what he gets if he wins. Denji states he will naturally get his balls. Katana Man can't believe it and asks them to stop as they approach him. The two then start kicking Katana Man, wondering if Himeno can hear their requiem for her.

During bonus episode 2.5 I made some changes around the base. We added in some splitters and mergers to our iron production, and started laying down the bases foundation. Using that blueprint, I actually went ahead and set up several more factory chains, and completed a couple of upgrades after I stopped the video.

My heart leapt the moment I realized that you could use the chainsaw to clear brush. I originally though that trees and natural features were going to be permanent fixtures. Looking back my concerns were pretty silly, but regardless I was thrilled to have the opportunity to clean up the area around my base.

MAPPA has certainly kept true to the writing of the manga in this adaptation. I was nearly brought to tears in the first episode just by how emotional and sweet the connections between the characters were, and I was splitting my sides with laughter at some of the exchanges in episode two. Tatsuki Fujimoto definitely created a manga masterpiece of storytelling and tone, with a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings both the characters and the audience go through as the story progresses.

Everyone kept looking out into the woods where the sandy lawn became scrubby pines. Where the chainsaw still sat. Where blood now fed the thirsty roots of scrub pines and poison ivy and attracted every manner of Pine Barren monster.

For international audiences, Crunchyroll is simulcasting the series. The episode with English subtitles will be available an hour after its release in Japan. In the United States, that would be at the following times on Tuesday:

Written by Tatsuki Fuijimoto, Chainsaw Man tells the story of Denji, an orphaned teenager who tries to make ends meet by becoming a devil hunter. He is accompanied by Pochita, a devil dog that can be used as a chainsaw.

Every week when a new Chainsaw Man review goes up, there are typically a lot of shots to choose from to include within the content, but this week might have actually been the hardest yet. It is by far the prettiest episode yet, despite also being one of the most shocking, a trend that looks just beginning.

The whole vomit fiasco in the last episode ended up feeling second place to what was one of the most intimate and warm expressions of sexual attraction put to animation in a long while. And considering how this episode goes, it suddenly makes a lot of sense why so much thought and care went into expressing Himeno at her most human and carefree.

When she made a proposition with Denji to help each other get with their desired partners, it felt so obvious of a plot hook, ensuring more time together on the horizon. With all the time spent on the characters in the past seven episodes, that alone was exciting to look forward to. But before even the halfway point, the story took a shocking turn, and it was absolutely incredible.

The Katana Devil's introduction alone would be exhilarating, shocking, and the highlight of the episode, but the events prior make the entire sequence immediately tense. It starts with Makima being gunned down, then shots of the other members of the team being targeted by seemingly normal pedestrians who have their hands on guns.

It's amusing how much the thought process on the episode gets wiped clean as soon as the bullets fly because right before the crap hit the fan, the way Makima was written was intriguing. This whole time she's been incredibly kind and caring, but suspiciously so. Here, she openly expresses frustration with attending a meeting in Kyoto because the higher-ups are intimidating.

It's a small detail compared to the rest of the episode afterward, but it started to make me question the kind of person Makima is even more while watching. While only speculative, it seems clear that Makima won't stay dead. Everything about her is simply too alien for this to be her full end, a certainty not shared by Himeno, this episode's other apparent casualty.

The ending has the energy and quality of an opening, but it couldn't have properly fit anywhere else but this episode. The happier, quirkier themes of episodes past have given way, just like the story itself, to reveal something that is simply "Chainsaw Man."

When this show began, it was already good. It was patient and contemplative, in love with its characters and all of their flaws and dreams, but it was bound to happen that a moment would come when the show became... itself. There had to be an episode that would signal the start of what every meme and out-of-context manga panel that sold people of the series was about.

He's down on his luck, living in deplorable conditions, and hunting devils to pay off his late father's debts. And as a teenage boy, all he wants to do is eat good food and get a girlfriend. Can't really argue with that. It also helps that he has such an endearing relationship with his devil-dog, which, by the way, has a chainsaw protruding out of its face.

When the Chainsaw Man finally makes his grand entrance and lets it rip, that's really the highlight of the episode. We see zombie-devil guts and limbs splatter across the screen, accompanied by the sound of heavy metal and gnashing of chainsaw blades, and you can tell the show's artists put some thought and care into the violence.

So far, the story is just an excuse to see Denji eviscerate monsters, but that's not to say it'll always be this way. The creator of the manga (Japanese comic), Tatsuki Fujimoto, is known for his absurd, volatile, yet compelling storytelling, and if the show stays faithful to its source material, this episode is just a setup for the punchline.

The anime offers nothing wildly impressive for now, but it's just enough of a tease in a 24-minute package to hook me. If you like the carnage you see in the first episode, then you might want to stick around to see where the story goes.

Chainsaw Man episode 12 is releasing on December 27 at 9:00 AM Pacific/12:00 PM Eastern. That's 5:00 PM GMT in the UK. It'll be available in the west to Crunchyroll Premium users, so you'll need to sign up and subscribe to watch. In Japan, it's on Amazon Prime Video on December 28 at 1:00 AM JST.

Back in episode 8, Katana Man shot Himeno, due to which she bled a lot. Seeing that she was about to die, Himeno decided to give her entire body to the Ghost Devil to save Aki from Katana Man. In doing so, parts of her body started to vanish, causing her to die when the Snake Devil devoured the Ghost Devil's head. 2351a5e196
